Question about Dell Computers & Internet

Dell computer does not boot up - I have a Dell

Dell computer does not boot up - I have a Dell Optiplex 320 desk top computer at home and it will not boot up. When I turn it on, Dell logo comes on with load bar and then the screen goes dark blue. The computer light stays green. I guess the problem is it will not boot up. Do you know how to fix it? The computer is about 5 years old and didn’t come with boot disk. Probably out of warranty. When I press F12/F8 it has a system management command where I can press “revert to factory setting”. Is this same as rebooting? Should I try this or something else?

First I would press (I think) F11 for the boot device. In the Dell boot menu, you will have the option of running diagnostics. Try that.
You can see the Dell splash screen on startup and you can see the options letting you choose what to do. So, you can be pretty sure your CPU. motherboard, and video are OK. The next suspect might be the hard drive or the files on the hard drive. But if you don't get a "no boot device" message, it sees the hard drive. I've also experienced a booting problem if the CD goes bad. So--first run the diagnostics. Then open the case and disconnect the cable from the CD and try booting.
I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that you have pushed F8 key after computer startup to see if you can start the computer in safe mode.

Enter the bios by pressing F2 during the first seconds of the boot. Then look for "restore to factory settings".
If that doesn't work the look for the graphic/monitor settings and try to change settings.

Good luck and let me know how it goes

Keyboard failure in dell optiplex 320

Too many keystrokes are being entered during POST (what your computer does before booting into your operating system) or a problem with your keyboard connected to the PS/2 port, or a problem with the port itself.

Replace/clean/fix/prevent cat from stepping on keys of the keyboard to resolve issue.

In that case all you have to do is to boot from the recovery disks that came with the pc when you bought it. From then the process is pretty much automatic.

Hook vga cord to hdtv and optiplex desk top get

Try a different display setting, for example, 1280 x 800 or 1024 x 768. Once you can see (computer) display, then move onto the best resolution which your display card support for your HDTV. Good luck..

(btw, if your dell has two vga sockets, get another vga cable. Then set your computer to a dual display mode, one for your computer and the other for HDTV. this way you will never lose your display.)

DELL STARTUP

There was problem at one time with IOGear KVMs not working correctly with the USB chipset on the Dell motherboards. This problem was resolved by using a USB hub between the KVM cable and the computer. The user could take the USB portion of the KVM cable and plug it into a USB hub and then take the USB hub and plug it into the Dell computer. That should help with the problem.
