This may or may not help but, see the following for how to replace the belt.

It also has a description of the tranny and how to pull it.

I have a heavy doty 70 series top load washer. The drum and agitator do not move and the motor is making alot of noise. What is most likely wrong

Older style Kenmore washers had a belt. This washer probably don't have no belt that drives the tub. It has a coupler to transfer the energy from the motor to the tranny. If yall washed a rug or comforter lately then I suspect the drive coupler might be broken:

Replacing the coupler is fairly easy. You need a set of screwdrivers and some pliers to repair this puppy. Flip up the controls so the case can be removed on these washers. You never work from behind on this washer. Once the case is off you yank the pump and motor off and remove what is left of the old drive coupling from the tranny and the motor. Don't jam the coupler on the motor or tranny too tight or you will have problems.

How do I know if my Kenmore Series 70 Top Loading Washer is Belt driven or direct drive?

Take the back cover off and look at the motor. If it has a belt it's not direct drive.

I am having trouble replacing my belt on my Kenmore 70 series

i've got them down to 10 minutes, but here goes. remove the bolts going into pump, but do not remove pump . remove the transmission bolt with the spacer and this is where you push the belt through and around pulleys.. this is a little more difficult. you will need to take off the yoke spring and move the transmission pulley around until the spin control magnet catches for spin. it will begin to take pressure off of clutch. you will need a long screwdriver or something like it to apply pressure down on the clutch plate this is to allow to to slip the belt thru the bar the spring came off of and under it.. you can then pull the belts around all pulleys and put everthing back in its place and your done...

Kenmore series 70 washer will only fill with water.

I recently had this problem. It was found that the main drive belt broke and the washer would fill but not spin, agitate or drain. I replaced the belt and everything worked again. A defective or disconnected cover switch would also cause the same problem.

Kenmore 70 series won't always spin. It agitates but does not always spin. Lid switch, tranny, what?

It could be lid switch. It could be spin basket drive as well. Will you ewasher agitate with the lid up? Does the washer motor run but the tub doesn't spin? If the motor runs in the spin cycle with the lid down, it is not the lid switch.
The spin basket drive is driven by the transmission.
Let me knwo if I can help further. Thanks

My kenmore 70 series will not spin water out

Sounds like the tranny is possibly shot. The motor spins backwards to extract, and if the tranny is bound up the belt may spin and burn.

Kenmore 70 series washer will not spin, clothes are too wet

Not a belt, this is only a sound deadening devise on the brake housing. Not really needed. Replace the coupler
