"I know I'm a biot late to the party here but I just worked on an M3027 with that same error. It turned out to be the scanner head lock was in the locked state. Tried unlocking with the machine still on which didn't clear the error but after a power-cycle with the head unlocked the error was cleared. Nice simple and free solution!" I keep getting a message..."Scanner failure. Turn Power Off then On

The scanner is not able to calibrate. It can be a few things. Either the scanner lamp has reached the end of it's life and can not output sufficient light, the first surface mirrors in the scanner head are dirty (blocking sufficient light), or the calibration strip is dirty. That machine is what I would call decent. I would prefer it over a brand new model because it holds a substantial amount of ink. I would attempt to repair it, but would suggest taking it to a qualified shop, ask them about the problem and see if they can suggest any of these as possibilities before giving them the work.

I keep getting this error scanner failure.

On the top of the scanner mechanism, there is a black tab that gets caught on the underside of the scanner surface, just beyond the glass, towards you. You will hear a gear grinding sound, that"s the tab getting caught. either bend the tab down, or remove it. Its on the black cover that"s on top of the scanner mechanism. Also remove any tape that is on the bottom of the trailing cable under the scanner mechanism that prevents it from moving all the way to the left. This worked for me, It drove me nuts till I found out.

My Office Jet 7310xi scanner failure

Does it scan from either the doc feeder or from the flatbed itself?
Can you COPY a page?

Are you using the buttons on the printer, or do you work from HP director?

When I turn the printer on, a rhythmic banging sound starts

Is the scanner transport lock engaged?

This is either a screw, pin, Clip, Slideswitch or button that keeps the delicate scanner head from moving during shipment.

Look for it in the back and on bottom. If that isn't it, then the driver circuit for the stepping/space positioner motor is bad and you need a techie like me to fix... or just get a new AIO for $39.95 from Wal Mart.

I keep getting a scanner failure error

Let's try this. Turn power off, unplug the cord from the surge strip or wall socket. Leave unplugged for about 30 minutes, then plug back in and turn on. Hopefully this will fix your problem. Good luck.

Scan head/carriage not parking in one spot -- keeps moving.

The scanner is having trouble getting its "white reference" usually due to dusty mirrors, but can also be the bulb losing brightness. These are not a easy machine to pull apart if your not used to it.

Good colour laser MFP, depends on volume of prints and remember colour dont come cheap, but dont use refill cartridges, Kyocera and Oki both have good Models
