If you can turn the drum by hand it may be the motor start capacitor.fitted just above the motor if you cant turn the drum one of the drum seals will have jammed the drum the belt will have snapped as well.

Possible lint blowing around on the heater coil. That burning smell is like paper burning. Get the dryer cleaned.
Make sure there is nothing sticking to the inside of the drum from previous drying.

There's a slight burning smell coming from the dryer drum.

Some item may have gotten between the drum that rotates and the housing and during the rolling of the drum this item may be heating up from the friction. Check closely to see if you can find anything rubbing on the drum.

My kitchenaid washer has a burning smell

Hi, a slipping or severed belt will produce a burned rubber smell. A belt supports the drum and ensures its smooth movement. If it wears, the drum's movements weaken and finally come to an abrupt halt. In addition, a slipped or severed belt usually produces a burned rubber smell. Refer to the washing machine manual to review how to locate the belt. If the belt is no longer around the drum's center, shift the belt back to its original position. If rubber fibers are discernible or cracks are apparent, change out the worn belt for a new one.

Thank you.

Washer wont spin, smells like burning rubber

The burning rubber smell is coming from the belt which goes around the drum and is driven by the motor. The belt has probably stretched and is now slipping. It will need to be replaced.

Good luck!

I have a Kenmore Dryer Model number 66902691 that has a burning smell when it is running. All lint was just cleaned out of it, but it is still smelling!

This might be caused by a seized idealer pully, located on the bottom of the dryer drum. A belt wrapes around the drum and across the idealer pully and then on the motor pully. If the idealer is not turning freely, it creates friction and eventually burns the belt in half.
Hope this helps

Drum rotates and then motor locks up. Burning smell comes from machine with continued operation. Drum rotates free by hand. Drive problem or motor?

replace your belt ... the motor does not smell like burning rubber, the belt will exzude that odor.

Pop the top ... remove the front ... use care with the door switch wires.

the drum will come free of the unit.

Put the new belt over the drum, through the tensioner on the bottom, around the motor pulley.

You will need help ... put the drum back on the wheels inthe back and replace the front ... snap the top down

while it is apart, clean the exhaust system completely

Screeching noise and burn smell how do I open dryer to repair

Pull it out from the wall, unplug it and remove the back panel by removing the screws. The problem is most likely the belt around the drum which is either worn out or out of alignment. Take a look at it and decide if you can just straighten it on the drum or if you will need to buy a new belt.
