Question about Black & Decker 14" Grass Hog Xp Trimmer/Edger

2 Answers

Refilled line and the line now just runs out in a few seconds. Ratchet is not working and a smaill half circle part fell out (maybe 3/16 x 1/4?). Has a brass ring around one side. It would appear to be some sort of locking cam for the ratchet brake for the spool feeder?

Yes, that part needs to snap into the head of the weed eater. You can get new spools at hardware stores for a couple bucks.

How to make a 5 point star

Use a compass to draw a circle the size you want your star to be.
Draw a second, smaller circle inside the first, using the same center point. Make the second circle about half the size of the first.
Draw a line from the edge of the outer circle to the center point using a ruler.
Place a protractor on the line, with the center hole of the protractor over the center point of the circle.
Measure and mark every 72 degrees around the circle (72, 144, 216, 288 and 360 degrees), dividing the circle into five even sections.
Line the ruler up with the center point of the circle and one of the marks you just made.
Draw a line from the edge of the outer circle, through the center point, ending at the edge of the inner circle.
Continue drawing lines as described until you have drawn the five lines, which evenly divide the circle.
Connect the top of one of the lines that touches the outer circle to the lines that touch the inner circle on both sides, forming a point.
Continue to connect the lines around the circle until you have made a five-point star.
  • Make the inner circle larger for a fatter star or smaller for a thinner star.
  • Draw your star on poster board and cut it out to use as a pattern for drawing more.
  • To make a six-point star, measure and mark every 60 degrees (60, 120, 180, 240, 300, and 360 degrees), dividing the circle into six even sections.
  • To make an eight-point star, measure and mark every 45 degrees (45, 90, 135, 180, 225, 270, 315, and 360 degrees), dividing the circle into eight even sections.
  • Quick and easy may want to do this a few times before the final perfect one. This actually made me think. Haven't done geometry in a very long time.

I have a brand new husky 1/2'' air ratchet. It was working fine yesterday and today I went to use it, no go. When I hit the trigger, air just shoots out of the release port. The ratchet does not turn. ...

There could be a couple of things wrong with it. First and foremost make sure your compressor has the correct cfm's to operate the tool. Psi is only half the battle when it comes to air tools. Second, make sure that your reversing switch on the ratchet is properly engaged. Sometimes it will get stuck in the middle. You may have a crimped hose so check the hose. There may have been debris in the line that got into the motor. If this is the case, then you are going to need to have to take it apart to see what is wrong. If you just bought it though you should take it back to Home Depot. I had a customer who basically had the same thing happen. He used the ratchet twice and the valve pin cap just popped off. It is plastic and just broke in two. I tried to look up the part and it is unavailable. Husky is made by Campbell Hausfeld for Home Depot. Sometimes it is not that easy to get parts for certain models. I believe they make a run of tools and then discontinue the line they just made, and do not make parts available. You could try taking it back to Home Depot and swapping it out for a new one. Or my suggestion would be get your money back and by a better brand ratchet like IR or CP.

My yamaha tzr 250 runs for just a few minutes and the engine dies out.and when i try to start it...it will only run again after a few minutes of rest....

Check your fuel lines and filters. If these are dirty then maybe the fuel is restricted so when you rest the bike the carbs will refill.

Warning lights on land rover dicovery 1993

A circle with lines around it - depends where it is -
If its a top left light, then it should be a circle with an exclamation mark in the middle, and two lines running part way round the outside (1 to 5pm and 7 - 11pm). Thats the handbrake and brake fluid light which comes on for about 3 seconds when you start the engine ... if it comes on at any other time - seek help.
If its top centre, and has ABS in the middle, then its the anti lock braking light. Similar to above, lights up for a few seconds at start.

Muffler with lines coming off it - are they pointing outwards from the circle, (with a thermometer in the middle = transmission oil temperature guage), or are they on the left and all parallel (which would be main beam indicator, which lights up blue when on)

Replace water pump

REMOVAL: 1) Remove the plastic belt routing diagram (there is a bolt underneath if I remember correctly)(yep, 8mm). 2) Using a 3/8 breaker bar or a ratchet, insert into the belt tensioner and push toward the back of the engine enough to release tension on the belt with one hand, and with the other hand, remove the belt from the water pump pulley. Then remove the bar/ratchet from the tensioner. 3) Remove the 4 bolts holding the shiny pulley onto the water pump (11mm). 3a) Large catchpan underneath, there's more coolant in there than it looks like. 4) With a ratchet and possibly a short extension, carefully remove the 5 bolts that hold the water pump onto the block (8mm). 5) Pry the water pump away from the block and clean both surfaces so they are free of gasket material. INSTALL: 1) Line up the gasket and *carefully* fit the new water pump onto the block. The holes are very easy to line up wrong because they are almost, but not quite, equally spaced from each other, so be VERY careful you have all 5 holes lined up right. 2) Screw each bolt in a few tuns to make sure they all go in smoothly. If you get any resistance (it will feel like it's crossthreaded), you have the holes wrong, and you need to rotate the water pump so the holes are lined up right. I can't stress this enough. 3) Torque all the bolts down (I can't recall the exact in/lbs - sorry) in a star pattern. 4) Mount the pulley onto the water pump shaft, torque bolts down (an air ratchet helps greatly here as the shaft will try to spin when the bolts start getting tight). 5) Release the tension as explained in step 2 at the top, put the belt back on the water pump pulley & double check to make sure it's on all the other pulleys while you're at it. 6) Bolt the plastic bolt routing diagram back onto the head. 7) Refill the resevoir and bleed the system of air. That's it! It's an hour or so job if you've never done it before. Note, if you're not using a gasket, get some water pump gasket sealer and make a gasket around the entire diameter of the mounting surface of the water pump. Remember to make little circles around the bolt holes also.
