I can't get the burner to burn no matter what burning software I'm using free or not. Will not burn anything to a CD

Base from the description of your problem this issue can be related to your CD/DVD writer since you already tried using different burning software, can you tell us if you are receiving any error message when you try to burn something.
I also have this same problem with one of my CD/DVD writer that is can red any disc but cannot burn and the problem with it is the lens of the unit and the only thing you can do is to replace it.

TOASTER FOR IMAC

The most common application that can be used for burning CD/DVDs on the mac is Toast from Roxio. It costs around $100 dollars but you can use a free burner application called "burn'. When i try to burn anything using a sony dvd -r disc it doesn't burn

Have you tried using a different burning software?

My DVD drive could not write any things on DVD! it just write documents on CD.

this might be because you have not selected the option to burn a dvd or your burning software does not support dvd burning

No software for my dvd player and no software cd

your cd/dvd does not need any software to run/read you might need to get some burning software if you want to start burning data to disks

you might want to use free nero lite or you might want use other free burning software

either from majorgeeks.com or cnetdownload.com
