Question about Dell OptiPlex GX270 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Possible hardware conflicts when installing a new monitor.

I recently installed a HP w2007 monitor on a dell optiplex gx270 and now the computer crashes and the monitor loses video. Sometimes holding the power button to do a hard shutoff then rebooting it fixes the problem, other times I have to reset the BIOS by removing the internal battery. It sometimes works for a few ours other times a few seconds. I am baffeled, i have replaced the power supply, the processor, the video card, well i feel like i have almost replced the whole darn thing short of a mother board and shell. Any solutions or suggestions would be aprreciated.

I am having the same problem, only mine started when I upgraded my memory from 2 gig to 4 gig. When I drop back down to 2 gig it seems to run fine. I also changed everything but the mother board.

You changed all that and it still does it? Are you by chance running Vista?

I have a hard disk running on windows 95 but in DOS mode from another computer. When i fix it to GX270 desktop, the serial port does not function. I need to know what driver I need to download from Dell...

It is not a good idea taking a hard drive from one computer
and using it on another. When windows is installed, it loads
all the drivers for the hardwares attached to a particular
motherboard. Your new Dell GX270 cannot function properly
with the drivers loaded for a different motherboard.
You can fix all your compatibility problems by installing a
fresh new copy of Windows 95 on your GX270.

Dell gx270 not communicating with monitor. self test feature check is floating on monitor

This is a self check for the monitor. This self test means that the monitor is not getting a signal from your computer. Have you installed any video cards in this computer?

If its onboard video meaning you never installed a video card then your video card is bad. Try purchasing a video card and installing it in the computer and your problem should be fixed. I hope this helps you. Any other questions feel free to ask thanks.

I can't get my Dell Optiplex GX270 to communicate with my modem

You might be lacking your System BUS and Chipset drivers. Your chipset controls your outbound hardwares (that includes Ethernet). If you still ever had your Resource CD, that may come in handy for your drivers are in there. If not, what you could do is to download all necessary drivers using different PC and I assume you have any media to transfer the files (e.g. Flash drives, SD cards, ... others), from there copy the file in ant directory you want.

Follow the file on that Directory you created from the downloaded files.

Order of installation should be:
1) Chipset
2) Audio
3) Communications(modem)
4) Network (Ethernet/LAN/Wireless)
5) Input Devide Drivers
6) IDE & EIDE Controllers

you may have to skip installing others drivers if you already have it.

To check what drivers that are missing just press "Win + Pause Break" buttons. On "System Properties" window click the "Hardware" tab then "Device Manager" button.

On Device Manager look for a the ones that are not installed are that with a yellow triangle icon.

Hope this helps.

System couldnot respond after booting dell gx270

Try to check connections between the monitor and the System Unit or what they called CPU. Turn on the computer you must hear 1 beep means the computer start normally. if you haven't, try taking out any new installed hardware but not the video card if you don't have onboard video device and turn on your computer again.. if problem still exist keep in touch..
