Question about Westinghouse Refrigerators

Open Question

My Westinghouse Silhouette auto defrost 441 stopped running when I shorted it while replacing the awkward spring clip over the plastic terminal cover at the back.Yes I should have unplugged [thought I had], and yes I got a shock and a big scare. The light comes on but it wont run. . The short was thru a thin steel wire which instantly welded to the clip.[ I was using it to get a pull on the clip]. I think I've put too much current through 1 or more components. I suspected the thermostat [cold control] so bypassed it by connecting [at the thermostat] -the white from #5 on the starter to the blue which goes to the light switch from the incoming brown at the overheat control.?? is this right-I don't understand the starter, and it doesn't make it run.

SOURCE: Kenmore 596.75509400 bottom freezer defrost circuit test

if the thermostat is not cold enough it will be open and not allow the heater to come on. I would suggest you let the unit run for a few hours then check on the defrost cycle. in that time the terminator should close allowing the heater to work

My oven is turning on by itself. It will heat up to around 200 - 250 degress and shut off. I have made sure the knob is in the "OFF" position. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Refrigerator not cold/Freezer cold.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp .

.
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

I am guessing you want to replace the bulb! Remove plastic cover which can be held in place by philips head screw or screws. The plastic cover can have side clips that need to be squeezed in gently to allow them to release from a slot in the fridge. Once the cover is removed, the bulb should be a screw type. Remove and then buy a replacement - the edison screw size and wattage are the most important thing to fit. Bulb shape to suit size behind the cover. Buy at WW or Coles otherwise spare parts on possibly ebay if you can be precise on model etc.

How to replace drivers side front headlight unit on 2003 vauxhaull vectra

The bulbs are little devils to get hold off due to the lack of space and light inside the bonnet. So when dealing with the main beam pull out the side bulb and turn on the side lights. This will give you some light in the tight space. Before you undo the spring clip, attach a piece of fairly rigid plastic tubing (about 6 inches long) to the bulbs terminal. Make sure that the tubing is a firm fit, then undo the clip and withdraw the bulb using the plastic tube. This should insure that you don't drop the bulb into the headlamp cover or the car's floor pan like I did. Also notice which way around the bulb is located i.e.: the bulb flange is "D" shaped and can only be fitted one way round. Use the plastic tube to grip the terminal of the new bulb and guide it into the bulb's headlamp slot. Make sure that the flange is located correctly with your fingers, and then apply firm pressure to the tube to hold the bulb in place and relocate the spring clip one side at a time. The covers on the back of my headlights were just made of rubber and just pulled off rather than screwed. The job is awkward and more touchy feely than seeing what you are doing, but it two bulbs can be changed in under an hour

its easy to remove the ice ( just add heat ) / but you do need to correct the problem . this sounds like a defrost cycle failure .. ck the defrost heater and the defrost terminator . and the heater itself .. the model # is not complete try to find the one on the unit itself . in order to get better info .. hope this helps mmm. feed back pls.. 7/10 //11

No I don't think so. I think you either have a stopped up defrost drain or a bad defrost heater and terminator. Get into the evaporation section and check for ice. If the defrost heater is bad replace the defrost terminator thermostat. Would not be a bad idea to replace the timer or adc (auto defrost control). The fins are coils on the compressor should be clean and the fan motor(if applicable) by the compressor should be running when the compressor is.

How dp i take my door panal off my door

The panel is held on with plastic/nylon push in retainers. Use a putty knife to lift or pull yhe panel away from the door. If you damage any ,replacements are available at autozone and other part stores. The handles have C spring clips behind the handle. You need to push the panel in to get to the clips. Pus one end of the clip with a screwdriver and pop it off. Push the handle in to release the clip of pressure.

How do you get the headlight bulb out to change on the 2001

outer/inner bulb, remove top black plastic cover that runs the lenth of the front of the car behind lights, turn the circular cover covering bulb anti-clockwise and remove, you will see a spring clip, push this clip towards the bulb and downwards, this will release the bulb, fitting is the reverse and the bulb will only fit in one position. It is awkward and space is tight

Fitting new door seal to fl 850

not a big job but you may need an extra pair of hands as one part is awkward.
remove plastic clip that holds seal to cabinet - i prise clip of with a screwdriver. unpeel seal from cabinet and fold it inside the drum.
the seal is held onto tub with a large circular spring. push bottom of seal down and pull out and seal will come off together with spring.
now comes the awkward bit
lubricate the groove that fits onto the tub with washing up fluid all round. starting at top, push groove onto lip of tub. with thumbs, work all the way round in opposite directions with each hand until seal is completely located on lip of tub. this is quite hard to do so you may have to try several time but don't despair. fold the seal into the drum to make the next bit easier
next the spring has to be located which is where a second pair of hands will be helpful
start the spring at the top into the external groove of the seal and just work round till the spring slips into the groove. its harder than it sounds and four hands makes it a lot easier.
slip the seal onto the cabinet (easy bit) and fit the plastic clip
test for leaks using the rinse cycle (water level is higher)
this job used to take me under 5 mins and it is a real knack but is not really that hard. you can do it! the trick is always lubricate with washing up fluid
go for it

WESTINGHOUSE FREEZER MATE

Check the back bottom freezer wall to see if there is frost on it. If so you have a defrost problem. If the coil dosent defrost it becomes an ice ball and no air can flow. Could be a defrost timer which switches the refrig into the defrost cycle. There is also a heater and thermostat in the system. Shut it off overnight with the doors open to defrost it and get it temporarily running . If it is not frosted up make sure your coil underneath is clean and your cooling motor is running in the back, bottom.
