Question about Singer 7436 - INGENUITY

1 Answer

I have a Singer 6202 and the stitches stay tiny regardless of the stitch setting being set to gather. The machine is over 20 years old and makes a noise when I set it to gather mode. The reverse button shakes while trying to gather. It seems as if the foot does not move the material far enough in order for the stitches to form properly. Thank you.

Check your needle to make sure it's not bent--take the needle & roll it on a flat surface to see if it rolls good
the feed dog help the fabric move -check your operation manual to see if the feeddog is in the proper positon-if it's in the proper postion
you might want the sewing machine check by a service technican
good luck

How do I set machine to sew a gather stitch with a regular presser foot (like the old Singer)

You need to make a row or two of long stitches and then pull up the bobbin threads. For best results use the longest stitch you have (probably 6) then set the tension for half of that.
If you have a gathering foot then follow the instructions for that.

Singer sewing machine makes very tiny stitches at fast speed regardless of setting

Technically not a question, but I get your meaning.

The issue is probably caused by one of two things. First, the material may be very slippery. Does the material on either side of the stitch get shredded when sewing it?
Otherwise, it is likely a fault with the feed dogs. It sounds as if it is tight and is reverting to the short stitches. In this case, the feed mechanism needs to be serviced.

How to change stich to long stich for gathering?

http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/3e3e5558857ed68836712ac8545abb48178772a5.pdf is the manual for your machine; look at p. 27. You want stitch 00, and then increase the stitch length with the up/down buttons on the control panel.

p. 24 of the pdf covers adjusting the top tension of the machine; you'll have an easier time of gathering if you reduce the top tension about 1-2 number setting.

Need to gather a skirt to fit a dress bodice don't remember settings

hi, have the machine set at the longest straight stitch length, usually 4 or 5. Then sew 2 rows of stitches side by side without reversing at either end. remember to always pull the bobbin threads up to gather and not the top one.

How to do gathered stitches on j3-20 series

Gathering stitches is same on most makes and models, you just set up for a straight stitch but turn stitch length up to 4 and loosen off the top tension by one number, ie turn it down a little. Then sew two straight stitch seams where you want to gather, one at 10mm from raw edge and one at 20mm from raw edge, leaving long thread tails on both. Then draw up the bobbin (underside) thread to gather the fabric.

I have a singer sewing machine Model #4622A. I cannot get the bobbin case to stay in the machine. It will sew a little, then the bobbin thread gets knotted up and the fabric gets caught in the foot feed....

Hello. Are you putting the presser foot down before sewing? Check also the stitch length, set it to at least 3, and make sure it's not set to a darning stitch or hand embroidery stitch that lowers the feed dog.

What are the settings for a blind hem stitch? I've ordered the foot but can't find the settings. Singer 57815

I downloaded your manual for free at www.singerco.com and I be darned, I see why you are baffled. Call Singer at 1-800-4singer and ask them to tell you. This is a first for me to see in a machine that is not that old, my 45 year old Kenmore has the blind stitch setting. There has to be some answer to this.
