How do i reset my laptops cmos battery i have a dell inspirion 5100

The Basic Input Output System (BIOS) on a Dell laptop is used to help hardware communicate with the operating system. You can change many different aspects of your Dell laptop's BIOS such as boot order, BIOS time, set a system password, and change certain aspects of how your hardware works. If you want to reset your Dell laptop BIOS to its original settings, you can do so by changing only one setting. This setting restores your BIOS to its default settings, no matter what settings you may have changed.
1. Restart your Dell laptop. Click on "Start," "Turn off Computer" and "Restart." 2. Press "F2" during the boot process to enter the BIOS. Press "F2" before the Windows loading screen. Certain models may use a different key. The key will be displayed during the boot process. For most Dell models, the key is "F2." 3. Use the "Alt" + "F" key combination to load defaults. 4. Press "Esc" on your Dell laptop keyboard to save and exit. 5. Choose the "Enter" key to save all changes and exit the BIOS screen. Allow your laptop to restart for BIOS settings to reset.
I hope that these steps help you.

Please rate me.

Thanks.

My Dell Inspirion 1720 laptop suddenly won't recognise its battery. It works when plugged in but turns off immediately if the cord is taken out. Do you know how to make it recognise the battery again?...

To recalibrate the battery, complete the following steps:

1. Plug in the AC adapter.
2. Allow the battery to charge until the Battery Charge light turns off, showing that the battery is fully charged.
3. After the Battery Charge light turns off, unplug the AC adapter.
4. Turn on or restart your Notebook.
Reset the BIOS:
1. Restart the notebook.
2. Tap the F2 key as soon as the manufacturer logo appears.
3. Using the arrow keys, navigate to Exit menu and select Get defaults values. press f9 key to load default settings
4. Navigate to Exit menu and select Save Changes and Exit

5.go to the dell web site and update the Bios>> http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R192441&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1720&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=12916&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=6&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=1&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=264348

Click on the link and try to download the latest bios for the same.

Computer automatically restarts after shutdown, have to take battery out for it to stop

go to run, type regedit and do this:-

Open your registry: and find the key PowerdownAfterShutdown and set it to "1" to power off the computer at shutdown, or "0" to reboot.

Here is the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon If you don find it, create it(REG_SZ (String Value)) restart windows

Cannot get dell inspirion 1721 to find hard drive on system restore

Try restarting, and pressing f2 to access the bios, and making sure the bios is recognizing the hard drive..

If it is not, you will need to flash the bios for your machine..

Inability of laptop to recognize replaced battery

try to update your bios for your dell laptop. go to support.dell.com and click on the drivers and utilities image. place in your service tag. on the drivers list... look for bios. download the bios update and run it. it would restart the computer. make sure that you wait for it to return to windows. do not turn off the system while its updating the bios.

Update BIOS E1505/6400 fails

The link below will take you to Dell's support download site for the e1505 BIOS download.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R158849&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=10430&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=9&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=212350

It is version A17. Download the file to your desktop and then double click on it to run it. A window will ask if you wish to upgrade the BIOS. Click yes. The system will shutdown, the BIOS will be flashed and Windows will restart.

The error that you mention above indicates that the file did not download properly for you before.

Good luck, and please let me know how this works out for you.

Dell 6000 Inspirion wont boot after trying to replace RAM

use ac power
try the 1 gig in each slot make sure it's secure.
If system still won't boot
then restart and try to get into bios setup
then set to default settings restart
if still not successful then replace the old ram make sure it's secure in the slots and restart
Then i would suggest taking new ram back and if you give them your make and model they can suggest ram for you

checklist:
1. sound driver 2. microphone settings in volume control applet 3. tap test (tap the area around the microphone and see if eg Sound Recorder picks it up) 4. external microphone
If you get to step 4 before you get anything then your problem is one of missing or damaged microphone.
