There's either a lot of grease or something in the motor, or the motor control circuit has a fault on it. Try spraying the motor with Servisol Video 40 first. (available from Maplin UK or Radio Shack USA).

My advice to you would be go to AudioKarma.org a hifi forum on the web. I'm sure they will point you in the right direction.

Have you checked the cartridge in the turntable arm?Also check to make sure receiver/tuner is switched to Phono or Aux..Also check to see if there is a speaker switch on receiver.
