Question about Intertherm Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I am trying to get some information on Intertherm unit on the inside of a Manufactured Home, With the new Hud requirements they are saying the out door unit must be installed by the manufactures installation instructions that comes with the indoor unit, my question is will those installation instructions allow you to install a Trane or a Rheme unit ? I know they will work but are they allowed by the Instructions? Would you know if the Trane or Rheme units are Hud approved ? Thanks for any help on solving this debate,

Hi, since you live in a Manufactured home and not a R.V., I see no reason why you cannot go with what ever type of condensing unit you want to install on a slab outdoors. The installation instructions for the Intertherm unit for installing the outdoor unit should apply to any brand unit you want to use as long as the size of the indoor coil is the same capacity of the outdoor unit. For example, if the indoor unit is a 2 ton, 2.5 ton, 3 ton and so on, the outdoor unit would have to be the same is all. Same freon type, most are R-22, but they are using the new R-410a freon, so make sure of the freon type of the indoor coil is and get a unit of the same size and freon type. The installation instructions for the Intertherm should almost be the exact way to install any other condenser. Look for things like the distance from the outside wall, if it needs to be anchored, how far away the electrical disconnect box has to be from the unit, example 4' to 6'. Things like this you need to look for in the installation instructions is all. The new condenser unit holds enough freon for up to 25' of copper line set also. Try to stay with in that range to the indoor unit. If not, no big deal, they may need to add or remove a little freon is all. I hope this has been helpful to you on this. Trane, Carrier, Rheem, Ruud, Bryant, are all top of the line, better made then Tntertherm in my opinion. They should all be hud approved, I don't know where you are from, but here in Ca, they are.
I wish you the best, and please don't forget to rate me. I know you will be kind.
Sincerely,

Depending on how old your unit is there should be a wiring schematic on the inside of the control panel in the upper left hand corner of burner compartment. Remove two screws to remove cover. I hope this helps you. Thanks

We have an Intertherm furnace in our manufactured home which is apparently a replacement furnace as this is not the brand showing on the original paperwork for the home. Problem is that it is very loud. ...

Hi,
That is a common furnace for manufactures homes and yes they are loud....that is because there is no return duct on the unit and the fan sits jsut inside the door so the noise is not contained...
short of moving the furnace there is not much you can do about it...yes it stinks I agree with you... wish I could give you better news...

Where are the furnace filters in my older furnace?

Open the door to the airhandling unit inside the closet by lifting upward on them. There should be two filters located on top of the A coil.

HUD will not light up

If you peek down inside the windshield, you'll probably see the HUD is working. A common issue is that the adjustment spring will break, making the HUD invisible because it is adjusted out of range. The spring can be replaced by removing the cluster then the HUD unit.

I have a intertherm model feh-017h electric

It's the heat kit in the unit that is causing the problem. You need to do a continuity test on it to eleminate that they have shorted. This is the only thing in an electric furnace that will blow a fuse on it. Intertherm is a Nordyne product for manufactured homes. Of coarse they still sell them! I am a Nordyne dealer. Also a sequencer can not cause a fuse to blow. The service guy just wants to make money from you by installing a new unit. You can either re-wire the heat kit or you can purchase a new one and have it installed. If you are referring to the heat kit for 159.00, then that's a fair price for it if you are a non licensed person.
