One black wire on the switch hooked to the black sources wire. The other black wire on the switch hooked black up to the fan. The green on the switch wire goes to the bare wire. If there is bare wire you can use the white wire.

SOURCE: I need to find a light kit for a harbor breeze

You should be able to pick these up at Lowes if I'm not mistaken. I just bought a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan from there and saw the light kits around the same area. I also believe that, you dont necessarily have to get a Harbor Breeze light kit and that some are interchangeable.Hope this helps some.

White is your neutral so white goes to white. Blue on the fan is for the light kit you need to wire that to the wire from your switch so it works the lights. Black is the hot wire that is always hot not switched so tie that to the wire that is not on your switch. Green is ground so green to green. white to white / green to green/ black to black/ red to blue/

Hampton Bay 5745a ceiling fan, no blue wire.

The blue wire is running into the built in receiver inside the fan housing. You will not be able to install another receiver to the fan and have control of the lights. You will be able to control the fan though.

Wiring diagram for harbor breeze celing fan

The colors of the wires in the Harbor Breeze ceiling fan kits tell you what their functions are. The black wire is hot for the fan, the white is a common wire for both the fan and the light kit, green is ground and blue is hot for the light kit. locate the black and blue wires from the ceiling fan and connect them to the black wire inside the electrical junction box by twisting an orange wire connector onto all three wires. Locate the white wire from the ceiling fan and the white wire from the junction box and attach the two wires together with a wire connector. Connect the bare copper wire onto the green wire from the ceiling fan mounting bracket by twisting an orange wire connector onto the two wires. Push all wiring inside the electrical box. good-day !

Just tried to install the fan and light, it doesn't work when power is connected. I have 2 white house wires, none black. I have rechecked the connections, no power to the fan

the white wires are returns they dont supply power .. you may have to take the fan back down in order to find the black or red wire that supplys AC power .. a red wire would come from a wall switch .. the black wire would usually be 120 VAC .. be careful .. you must first turn off power before working with that live wire .. the white wires are always paired with a black wire and a bare wire (safety ground) .. perhaps the black wire just got covered up when the fan was installed .. the black (or red) house wire should be connected to the black and blue wires of the fan .. the white wires should all be connected together .. the bare wire should be attached to the green wire or bolted to the fan housing ..

I tried to install a fan light control switch for

The reason the fan and light are running together is because the are both running on one power wire. The three wires you have in the wall are probably white black and bare copper. You need to run a four wire cable which has a white red black and bare copper in order for you to separate the light and fan and for the circuit to run properly. A DIY electrical book from lowes or the home depot would help you alot with your situation.
