I'm thinking it's a low voltage problem. Make sure the battery is fully charged, and that the contacts on both the battery and camera are clean (use a qtip and alcohol, or a pencil eraser).
Here is an excellent web blog about power problems, and things you can check:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/simple-fix-for-dead-cameras-that-wont.html
There's also the possibility that there is a stuck lens issue, if the battery is good, but the camera will not turn on. Here's things you can try for this problem:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
Even though the article is for lens errors, it also applies to stuck lens issues.
If you can't get it working and decide to have it serviced, get an estimate first, since cost of repair can be quite high.
Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and hope this helps!

Does the camera power off almost right away ? if so you need better akaline batteries or new rechargeable batteries. every digital camera i've ever owned "eats" batteries generally because of the lcd screen. i've tried dollar store batteries once. was able to get one or two pictures per set of batteries.

Base from the description of your problem what we can do here first is to take the battery out from the camera for about 10 minutes then put it back in and check if you can now make the camera work or any of the menu to work if the menu are working you can reset the camera to its default.

Orange blinking light

This happens if you are taking shot in low light condition where a camera shake is more likely to happen. use a tripod, or change the ISO to higher value. Using Higher ISO would help less camera shake but the image may have coarse. This is not malfunction.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info. Also check the Canon website if you're not in the U.S. as this is a worldwide advisory.

I have a canon digital ixus i zoom but everytime i take a photo outside in the sun the photo is to bright?can you tell me what settings i need to go on ?

I'm assuming you have an SD30 camera? Press the Func/Set button and scroll to the top of the menu bar on the left. Scroll to the manual setting, now scroll down to the Exp setting and scroll over to -2/3. Scroll down to the ISO speed and select 100 or 200. Scroll down to the light setting and select Day Light. You can also try playing around with the color setting by selecting Vivid, and the file size set to Large Smooth. This should help/

I have a canon ixus 85is camera. iwant to be able to set aperture and shutter speed.i am concerned about shooting fast moving objects.

Hello tonyhart,

The Canon IXUS 85 IS camera was sold as the Powershot SD770 IS in the USA. You can download the manual for this camera from this page at Canon.com.

This camera has a Kids and Pets mode that helps when taking photos of faster moving objects. Details are on page 72 of the manual. Give that a try. If that doesn't work you will need to go into Manual Mode - details are on page 74 of the manual.

You may need to increase the ISO. See page 69. If you set the camera to a high ISO the images will not be as clear, especially in the darker areas - this is called "noise". This is one of the trade-offs we need to make to shoot in low light. If you change the ISO remember to return the ISO back to Auto or a low ISO setting (e.g. ISO 100) when you are done!

If it still doesn't work it means you simply don't have enough light. This can be a big problem with indoor sports - a person's eye adjusts to the low light and it looks "bright enough" to our eye, but it isn't bright enough for many cameras. This is why professional photographers spend the big bucks to buy the big cameras you see them using to shoot sports photos - those cameras have lenses and sensors that are better able to take photos in low light.

Good luck!

Try manually setting the ISO speed to 100. Sometimes on Auto ISO the camera chooses a high speed that reduces colors. Or you can try adjusting the exposure with the EV button - set to a lower setting like -1 or -1 1/2.

Your manual is here

ISO settings are basically the way the camera responds to light. The higher the ISO, the more the camera will take low light images. The trade off though in higher ISO is that you get grain.

You can use any infra red or Bluetooth flash unit, but make sire you get on that lists your particular model. That way they actually work from the amount of light that hits the CMOS sensor inside the camera itself.
