Question about Philips Computers & Internet

2 Answers

My Philips double deck stereo burner model CDR775 does not work with todays blank disc speed 1x - 48x. When I put in a disc speed 1x - 24x it works. The problem they don't make 24x speeds anymore. Can you please tell me what I should do?

Any other advises for my issue? Does any one know why they stop making 24x speed drive units?

    Thanks for the results!

Hello, Steven.

Your burner was developed 10 years ago. It is older technology and unfortunately will only work with lower speed discs.

You will need to replace the burner or continue to seek lower speed discs, if available.

Hope this helps.

    Hello again, Steven.

Technology is always changing and improving - faster, better and eventually cheaper.

  • steve huynh Aug 11, 2010

Thank you very much for the results. I feel upset now that, I put my unit in a box for 8 years to go to the navy, then return home in 2010 to find out my burner won't expect the blank discs from todays market. That really sucks. Thanks again for the information.

There is nothing one can really do, however i found many many types of 24x disc's at this link below, stock up, and then you have no problem... They may not make them anymore but there are plenty around as show,
It has got to do with the substrate of the disc, and the dye used. Unfortunately your unit, like many others will only play certain types, in saying that though you should try a few differing types many units will indeed work with certain brands...

I need a user manual for a Philips Dual deck Cd Recorder CDR775, Model No:775/00 Production No:VN10220230826. I bought one without the cable. I need to know also what cables I need to record live sermons

Dig down in this slow-to-load directory for the manual.

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/c/

What 'cable' allows live recoding? You need a mike, a mike preamp and from there probably any standard audio patch cords might work. It would depend on the other equipment.

CAN I WRITE AUDIO CD IN 8X SPEED

yes, you can write it in 1x or even 42x if you want. The only thing that can happen is a chance of data loss but not quality. Also some older stereos could run into issues not just cuase of the write speed but cd incompatibilitiy. Audio CDs are nothing more than WAV files written on a CD and then a table of contents added as a CDFS file system.

I have a philips audio recorder cdr 760 When i try to record cd rw a blank audio tdk cd the machine said OPC FAIL What I have to do to record the cd rw on my Philips cdr 760 Thanks for your...

There are a lot of forums which discuss OPC failure and it strikes every hardware maker and brand of media.

The bottom line is that certain media and certain writers just don't get along.

The manual:

"I don't buy expensive blanks. I buy modest quality blanks and watch
for sales so that I can them for about a dime a piece after the rebate
check comes in. If I have an OPC Fail message, I try another blank. If
I find that they consistently fail (about half a buck wasted) I move
the stack over to the computer (which seems to work fine with these)
and buy another stack of blanks of a different brand next time I see a
good price..."

an interesting workaround:

http://www.sweetwater.com/forums/showthread.php?10128-Tascam-CD-RW5000

"CDRW 5000 work around for OPC FAIL
Here's a work around for OPC FAIL on cdrw 5000 -

method 1: turn unit on at least 30 minutes or more before use (this seems to work best for me)

method 2: run OPC on an old cd that always works - after OPC passes, remove old cd and insert new CD (you only get 99 OPC runs per disc)

-or use a combination of the two methods

I've always used TDK and I recently bought a new batch and they stopped working. The old ones still work everytime. I don't know enough about the system to guess what the difference is.

side note: CDRW 2000 will finalise discs from the cdrw 5000 but not the other way around.

Hope that helps "

I have a LG GE20 DVD Rewriter Is a DVD+RW disc a format that is editable and suitable for this unit?

The LG G20 DVD Rewriter is an advanced external burner that supports 'editable' Rewritable DVD+RW disk.
As a generic comment, not all writable/rewritable media are made equal and problem with branded & unbranded disks are not uncommon, so stick to brands that work for you for your specific unit!
The following is the advertised support for your unit, hope it helps:
Reading Rate DVD-R/-RW/-ROM 16x/13x/16x/16xSL/12xDL max. DVD-RAM 2x, 3x-5x, 6x-12x DVD-Video (CSS) 4,8x max. (Single/Dual Layer) DVD+R/+RW 16x/13x max./ 12xDL max. CD-R/RW/ROM 48x/40x/48x max. CD-DA (DAE) 40x max. Burning Speed DVD-R 2x, 4x CLV, 8xZCLV, 16x PCAV, 20X CAV DVD-RW 1x, 2x, 4x, 6x CLV DVD-RAM 2x, 3x ZCLV, 3x - 5x PCAV, 12x PCAV DVD+R 2.4x, 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x PCAV, 20X CAV DVD+R Double Layer 2.4x, 4x, 10x, 12x ZCLV DVD-R Dual Layer 2x, 4x, 6x CLV, 10x, 12x ZCLV DVD+RW 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x ZCLV CD-R 4x, 8x CLV, 16x, 24x, 32x, 40x, 48x ZCLV CD-RW 4x, 8x, 10x CLV, 16x CLV, 24x, 32x ZCLV

No read no write

One possible source of difficulty is there are different blanks for "slow" recorders (1x - 4x), "high speed" recorders (4x-10x), "ultra speed" recorders (12x-24x), and "ultra speed +" recorders. The disc manufacturers had to change the way the discs were made to accommodate each successive improvement, so older recorders don't work with the newer disks.
It is possible for some 4x-capable "slow" drives to use the "fast" blanks with a firmware upgrade, but there is no advantage to doing so since you're still limited to 4x recording (unless, of course, you're unable to find "slow" CD-RW blanks).
CD-RW discs for the faster drives are labeled with a "High Speed", "Ultra Speed", or "Ultra Speed +" logos. Make sure you buy the right blanks for your drive.

I have failed to copy pictures on my Sony 48x/24x/48x/16x DVD Rom. The system says there is no disc. I am using TDK DVD-R 1-16x speed 4.7 GB single sided.

Hey,

looking at the details you have posted about your cd drive, its a cd burner with dvd reading cability.

can you post me the model of your drive to confirm this, it says on top of the drive, maybe on the front.

or simply try a CD instead of a DVD

Thanks,
Ekse
