Printer say's it's up and read but won't print jobs

This are windows error and this might occur when your system is corrupted by virus or some malware. so please remove the driver of the printer from the add & remove program and than scan the system with some good antivirus and restart the system and put the hp 1020 driver CD into the cd-rom and reinstall the printer drivers. This will definately help you solving your problem. If Problem presist than Check printer on some other system and if it get work ok their than Format is the last option to solve this problem.

Can I scan through a wireless network connection?

hmmm...well..that's an interesting point..according to HP site, this is NOT supposed to be an issue. Seems, though, that perhaps, the print server/hub you are using, is not processing the scan command? I'd check that item first, to see if it will handle those commands..
