Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a FireLite Firewire portable disk. I can't transfer files larger than a meg to the disk from my desktop. But I can transfer from the Disk back. I'm on a Mac Book Pro, running 10.4.1.1. I've also tried it on a G-4 (same cable), and received the same result-Error Code -36.

That's my take too. But I can't try until Monday, and I wanted to see if there were any "known" bugs with the System 10.4 interface. I'll accept on Monday.

    Thanks

Not the cord. Data copies off the disk, but data won't copy back.

I have a smartdisk firelite hardrive, is it possible to transfer the data onto a windows7 laptop. Model number of the hardrive FWFL40-N

Yes, it will work if the disk is operational and the laptop has an firewire port with all the drivers installed.
Just connect the disk and it will appear in Computer as an external disk.

MY COMPUTER DIED. HOW DO I TRANSFER THE FILES FROM MY VERBATIM SMARTDISC FIRELITE 160 GB, USBFLB160' TO ANOTHER COMPUTER? THANKS...........................JOHN NICKERSON

It depends on how you copied your files to the SmartDisk.
If you used the "normal" method of copying files/folders in Windows, then just connect it to the new computer.
If you used some "backup" software from Verbatim to write "backup" files,
then you'll need to install that software on the new computer,
in order to retrieve from those "backup" images.

Where did all my disc space go?

Empty your "Recycle Bin" -- it's possible that the files have just "moved" from their original location, and have _not_ really been "deleted".

Or, right-mouse click on "My Computer", and choose "Manage". Click through "Disk Management (local)", and you'll be able to "delete" the partition(s) on the drive, and then "create" a "new" partition, which, of course, will be 100% "empty".

I droped my firelite and now it won't read. I plug it in and hear the disc startup, the blue light flashes once and then three times in a row. Can I transfer the disc to another housing?

it sounds like you have damaged the disk itself. most portable hard drives are just notebook drives in portable enslosures. The same think happened to my WD portable and I had to trash it. I saw the same symptoms and only after playing with it could i get it to read but only with 2mb since the disk was cracked. hope this helps you.

MY Apple computer all of a sudden is not recognizing my 160GB Firelite. It has power but when plugged in the icon won't appear on the desktop and I can't access the drive? Was working earlier in the day.

Try going to utilities in the applications folder, in utilities select disk utility and see if the drive shows up, if so select repair disk after selecting the SmartDisk. If not showing select your hard drive and run repair permissions and see if it helps. Failing this you need a 3rd party disk repair solution like DiskWarrior. The information is still there!

I'm having problems connecting FireLite portable hard drives to my mc.

1. Check operating system version sometimes its just the version not all mac versions like externals.

2. Under disk manager if the drive does not appear 9 times out of 10 its not compatable with the os your using.

Thanks

EMac stuck on loading screen

Well i don't know of a fix for the issue u have, but i do have a tip and you might be able to fix the issue you have this way as well. But if you plan on transfering files from one mac to another esp. if one is either an older mac or a portable. you would always want to make one or the other a target disk instead of two stand alone mac's.
Why, because your eMac's older and the data transfer might be failing or can't process the data fast enough to get broken down to bits to be put back on the other end thru the cat5 line. But to transfer files of over 1 GB i would recommend you start the iBook in target disk mode. But since your eMac is the one with some issues put the eMac as the target.
To connect two mac using TDM (Target Disk Mode) you will need to get either a 6-pin IEEE to 6-pin IEEE firewire 800 cable, a 6-pin IEEE to 9-pin IEEE firewire 800 cable, or a 9-pin IEEE to 9-pin IEEE (if your eMac has a 9-pin port) firewire 800 cable.
Then you connect the cable to one of the eMac's 6 or 9 pin ports and the other end to one of the iBooks firewire 800 ports. (the iBook has both the 6 pin a48d559.gif and the 9 pin. 24a3000.gif800 ports) To start up as the target disk you press and hold T immediately after pressing the power on button. once you see the firewire symbol bounce around the screen you can let go. Now its like connecting to a external hard drive.

Formatted hard disk on pc now it won't run on mac

Try plugging your hard drive into your mac, open "Disk Utility" select your hard drive in the list on the side, Click RAID, change the Volume Format to MS-DOS (FAT), and it should work.
Hope this helps!
