In My Acer DVD Writer combo drive , CD's are not detecting. But DVD Are playing well.I have checked with device manger Its working well.

Click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select the no _ for your specific area

Netbooks are done without space for DVD drive, so you must purchase external DVD drive.

Yes! Optical disc drives like a CD/DVD Blu-Ray player/writer are usually plug and play.

I do have the same problem, my laptop doesnt detects the DVD writer, checked with the acer support, asked me to check the motherboard and may need to change that.

Try to use another DVD. you told you tried you old DVD from your toshiba. maybe is not compatible.. try in another.. then use your DVD in another laptop if the same from problem.check your board and DVD connection...if this under warranty bring to warranty..

if in Bios also can not detect this is hardware problem...

open your device manager , off a right click from ,,, my computer . click properties , hardware tab , then un-install both the cd and dvd . re-start your system and let windows detect the new hardware and re-install it for you . Let me know if this works .... if not we can troubleshoot further.

Sadly this is a fairly common problem with combo drives. In all likelihood, it will cost you more to have the drive repaired than to replace it.
I will suggest purchasing a dvd writer to replace the combo drive.
They are fairly inexpensive.

Hi, i have LG GCC4522B CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive and my problem is that i could open & play CDs. However when i insert DVD the drive doesn't detect the DVD and it shows no DVD in drive or blank. I checked the region setting which is 1. Is it the problem of region setting if so is there any solution for this. Expecting your valuable solution in this regard.

The virus and the Disck drive problem are not related. The disk drive has two lasers- one for CD one for DVD- one of the appears to have failed. Get hold of a CD drive cleaner. - this is a disk with a little brush on the underside and a bottle of fluid. try thats first. If that does not work then it is a new drive- unless you are happy to read only DVD's
