First check the HT fuse enlosed in a black or gray case or the micro switches at the door is faulty, if ok then the magnetron is dead and need replacement.

Do you take the turn table out when using both the microwave and the oven (combie)

No; if you're using the microwave you need to leave the turntable in to ensure the food heats evenly.

If you use just the oven or grill you can still leave the turntable in; there's no need to remove it. But you could remove it if you wanted.

I have a Sharp 980 A microwave which has been working perfectly for the last few years. Now we've recently moved to another place and when we tried it a week back, there was arcing, without any metal...

It was probably some damage during the transport. A microwave is an extremely dangerous appliance. Mu sincere suggestion is that you take it to a qualified repairman, have it repaired and ask for a certificate to verify that there is no radiation leaks anywhere.

I am getting arching in the oven when the only thing is themetal pan (rotating) the white dish and any food on the white dish What is happening?

Hello, thank you for posting your question on Fixya. I will be helping you with your Advantium oven. From your description it sounds like your having problem with the oven arcing. While you are using your microwave you can only have arcing occur while you are using the microwave or speedcook feature. While in either mode attention must be given to any mental in the oven. When microwaving place food and containers on the white ceramic tray only. The metal pan should be used during speedcook.

Happy Holidays!

GE JTP86 30" double wall oven: microwave will not heat and turntable does not rotate. Internal light works and electronic display functioning properly. 20 amp fuse is OK. What is likely cause?

Hi,

This confirms that either the thermostat or magnetron tube is shot. The tube could be more than an old microwave is worth.

The cost of the magnetron would be around $125 and the thermostat is around $25.

Here is a good repair service if you choose that route!
To schedule service or for customer service issues please call 1-800-905-9505.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Sharp MW won't shut off

Sounds like it needs a new electronic board or PCB. Although I would consider a new microwave as your microwave is getting on in age and can be a danger to health or dangerous if something blows up.

GE Microwave Model JKP85 Plate does not rotate

Usually this is a bad turntable drive motor in the floor of the microwave but the only way to know for sure is to do some electrical testing with a volt/ohm meter and the wiring diagram located within the appliance.

Turntable not turning

I fixed the problem with my microwave turntable motor without having to replace it. I removed the motor from the microwave and placed it in a small vise. Using a very small flat head screwdriver I was able to pry up the four tabs holding the casing together. You may need a slightly larger screwdriver after that to bend them back out of the way so you can remove the motor cover plate. Carefully take out all the plastic gears and note their position for re-assembly. You will find that the primary gear, at the bottom of the rest of the gears is attached to the motor magnet. It has a shaft that acts as a bushing passing through the center motor magnet. On the underside it is attached to a plastic washer. This is where it breaks. The motor magnet spins free of the gear/bushing/washer assembly. I used JB Weld epoxy to glue this assembly back together and it works like brand new. Note: On mine there were four indentations on each side of the motor magnet which corresponded to little ?bumps? on the underside of the gear on top and washer on the bottom. Place all the plastic gears back into the motor in the correct order, slide on the motor cover plate and use a small cold chisel with a round end and tap hammer to bend the tabs back into place. If this worked for you please let me know ? karlet@bellsouth.net
