I'm troubleshooting a laptop that won't start up. Where is the Cmos Battery? Near what? Thanks . . .

I can't reset anything if it won't turn on. Somewhere else, it was suggested to remove the Cmos for at least 30 mins. I've pulled everything apart and can't find it.

Unless the Bios is locked you dont need to remove the cmos battery. Do a reset of the settings and go from there. They are located differently on every pc. But try removing the ram stick cover.

removing cmos battery doesnt work no matter how long you leave cmos battery out been there done that , you have to locate cmos jumper on motherboard , remove main battery & memory cards , peel back clearish foil on motherboard near where memory cards install , should see jumper points on motherboard , take bread tie touch jumper contact leave main battery out stand up like book plug in power adapter , and turn on only until boot screen then shut-off , install memory card , remove jumper and try starting laptop , if it hasnt cleared password , remove memory cards and try jumping it again

Acer extensa 5630ez won?t turn on.

Can you give a location of R138?
Is it on the easy side? E.q. the side of the motherboard wich is accessible by removing the bottom plate? I see Q24, located close to CPU. If possible, post a picture of R138, with some components visible.

Time and date and loss of passwords

The BIOS battery has died. It is probably a coin type on the mother board. Unplug the PC, open the case and replace the battery. When it is back together, set the date and time in the BIOS and you should be good for a few more years.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Sturt up problem

get to the mainboard
there is a jumper near the cmos battery usually shows the
word (jbat) near it , try to change its position for some
seconds while power is off , this way will clear cmos and set the
mainboard bios to default settings.
start the system hit delete or F2 to enter setup then exit saving changes.

smtime low cmos battery could cause the pc not to start

a defected cpu and / or ac adapter will do too
