The solution 1 did not work.... still shows "scanner failure" window on desktop. Could this be a unfixable hardware defect... had the F4280 for 18 month now...

If you cancel an in-progress scan from a third-party program that is obtaining images from a Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)-supported device, you may receive the following error messages:

    Could not enable TWAIN source.

    -or-

There is no scanner found/scanner failure.

    Sabarish Unni Aug 06, 2010

Note: This behavior has been reported in third-party programs, such as, Picture Works PhotoEnhancer version 3.2, Adobe Photoshop, and CorelDRAW. Also, this behavior has been reported in Microsoft HomePublishing 2000.

In Windows 2000, this behavior does not occur: Programs do not generate errors when they are cancelled.

    Cause:

    loadTOCNode(1, 'cause');

This problem can occur because the third-party programs are not properly handling the return value, which must follow the technology without an interesting name (TWAIN) specifications.

The question on the F4280 with the blinking lights was submitted back in August 2010. None of the recommended steps solved the problem.... Then had to contact HP and in a very lengthy online CHAT session, the technician determined that this printer had a "hardware malfunction" which disabled the scanner but still allowed the unit to function as printer. They wanted to replace and sell me another printer, but I then bought a newer printer... By the way, the defective printer is still being used as a PRINTER only, ignoring the "blinking" lights...

    Issue
When trying to turn on the product, scan, or copy, the error message 'Scanner failure' appears on the product control panel.

An E might also appear in the Number of Copies display. This is an additional indication that there is an issue with the product that needs to be resolved. The presence of an E , however, does not affect the meaning of the blinking lights, and can be disregarded for troubleshooting purposes

Use the following solutions in the order presented to try to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue to troubleshoot.
Solution one: Check the scanner light
1.Make sure that paper is loaded in the input tray.
1.Lift the scanner lid, place a sample document face down on the scanner glass, and then lower the scanner lid.
1.Press Start Copy Color ( ) on the product control panel.
1.During copying, lift the scanner lid slightly to make sure that the scanner light is functioning. It is not necessary to lift the scanner lid completely.
CAUTION: Do not look directly at the scanner light.

1.If the scanner mechanism moves across the scan bed, but the light is not on, contact HP to service the product.
If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next solution.
Solution two: Check the operating conditions
Extreme temperatures can affect the operation of the product. Make sure that the operating conditions are within the ranges listed in the following table.
    Recommended operating conditions Specification
    Temperature 15 to 32 degrees C (59 to 90 degrees F)
Humidity 15 to 80 percent relative humidity non-condensing

If the operating conditions are within the ranges listed in the preceding table, continue to the next solution.
Solution three: Check the power connections
1.Make sure that the product is connected directly to a grounded wall outlet, and not plugged into a power strip or surge protector.
1.Make sure that paper is loaded in the input tray.
1.Lift the scanner lid, place a sample document face down on the scanner glass, and then lower the scanner lid.
1.Press Start Copy Color ( ) on the product control panel.
1.If the error message persists, try plugging the product into a different wall outlet, and then repeat steps 2 through 4 to copy a document.
If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next solution.
    Solution four: Reset the product
1.If the product is not already turned on, press the power button ( ) to turn on the product.
1.Disconnect the power cord from the product.
    1.Wait 30 seconds.
1.Reconnect the power cord to the product.
1.Wait for the product to reset and become silent before proceeding.
1.Try to copy a document again.
If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next solution.
    Solution five: Service the product
    -------------------------------------------------------------

You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the product once more..

If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, It could be a hardware issue/service the product.

Once you open the front panel with the printer on, you should have the ink brought to you. Both should all come to the front from the side of the printer so you can replace it.

C3150 print cartridge

  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Turn off the printer.
  • If the cartridges are leaking, put the print head on some tissue, so it can extract the excess ink. With a dry cloth, clean your scanner. Look inside the printer. If there is ink in there too, clean it. Use a lot of tissue or toilet paper. Might put some gloves on too.
  • When you make sure that the cartridges are not leaking anymore, gently wipe the electric contacts on them, and clean the ones on the cartridge carrier.
  • Turn the printer on.
  • Try printing.
  • If the cartridge light keeps flashing:
  1. If a computer message indicates a specific cartridge, that is the problem cartridge.
  2. If there is no computer message, look at the Start Copy lights - if the Black Start Copy light is blinking, the cartridge on the right is the problem cartridge.
  3. If the Color Start Copy light is blinking, the cartridge on the left is the problem cartridge.
If you find out which cartridge is the problem, you will need to replace it.
Unfortunately, the ink that has leaked inside, might have damaged your printer.

I have an hp f4280 and everything is installed. i cannot get it to scan, everytime i press the scan button the power button goes from being lit to blinking. i dont know what im doing wrong. is there...

Hi,
The all in one solution software you used in XP doen't work with Vista.

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie HP f4280) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

Hope that helps.

HP 1210 all in one printer does not have a maintenance button to allow me to align cartridges. Prints landscape pages out of alignment; I have tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back but it...

On the printer hold down the CANCEL button then press and hold the ON/RESUME button until the CHECK PAPER and CHECK PRINT CARTRIDGE LIGHT both blink simultaneously.
When both lights are blinking press CANCEL, COPIES, PAPER TYPE, and COLOR START COPY one after the other. All this must be done in under 10 seconds for it to work. Once this sequence of buttons is completed correctly in under ten seconds an alignment page will print.

Cannot copy

Remove the colour cartridge and then see : "E" is displaying in its display board. If "E" appear then put it back in carriage and remove black cartridge. If "E" doesn't appear it means your black cartridge is not working properly. and vice versa with colour cartridge. This problem is belongs to cartridge. Try to change them. Problem will automatically solve

Hp 1350 all-in-one

When power is applied to the all-in-one for the first time, the power light is solid and the check paper, check print cartridge, black copy, and color copy lights flash, the display will be blank, and the all-in-one will not respond. One or more of the following symptoms will also be observed: The all-in-one keeps turning off Cannot print, scan, or copy The print carriage will not move Windows plug and play (device detection) does not occur The all-in-one does not respond when buttons are pressed, including the power button. SOLUTION: This problem occurs for two reasons: the front panel cover was not installed or the ink cartridge access door was not closed before plugging in the all-in-one. The front panel overlay must be correctly installed before the power cord is plugged in. Follow the steps below to correct the problem: Disconnect the power cord. Lift the scanner lid and carefully line up and install the front panel overlay. Plug the power cord in. The print cartridge access door must be closed before the all-in-one is plugged in for the first time. The all-in-one cannot complete its first initialization until the door is closed. Follow the steps below to correct the problem: Disconnect the power cord. Locate and close the print cartridge access door. CAUSE: The all-in-one initializes when it is plugged in for the first time. While initializing, the all-in-one scans a bar code on the under side of the front panel cover requiring that the front panel cover be in place and that the scanner be operable. The scanner cannot operate when the cartridge access door is open On light (green) - On Check Paper light (amber) - Blink Simultaneously Check Print Cartridge light (amber) - Blink Simultaneously Black copy area backlight (green)- Blink Simultaneously Color copy area backlight (green) - Blink Simultaneously Issue Front panel overlay is not attached at all or not attached properly Solution Turn Off the all-in-one. Attach front panel overlay as instructed on Setup Poster. Turn On the all-in-one.

Priner problems

Issue After you install a print cartridge, or during normal operation, the print cartridge light and one or both of the Start Copy lights begin to blink. Solution NOTE: The procedures below refer to a 'problem' cartridge. The 'problem' cartridgeis identified either by a computer message or by the Start Copy lights. If a computer message indicates a specific cartridge, that is the problem cartridge. If there is no computer message, look at the Start Copy lights - if the Black Start Copy light is blinking, the cartridge on the right is the problem cartridge. If the Color Start Copy light is blinking, the cartridge on the left is the problem cartridge. If both Start Copy lights are blinking and there is no computer message, perform the procedures below on both cartridges. Work through the sections below in order. When the print cartridge light stops blinking, you have solved the problem. Step One: Remove, inspect, and reseat the problem cartridge The print cartridge may not have full electrical contact with the printer. Removing and reinstalling the cartridge may help. NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality of remanufactured or refilled cartridges. Make sure the printer is on. Press the Power button if it is not lit. Open the printer cover, then wait until the print cartridge carriage is idle and silent. Press down lightly on the end of the problem cartridge to release it. Slide the cartridge out and inspect it: CAUTION: Do not touch the copper electrical contacts or the ink nozzles. Check the electrical contacts for debris. Make sure all the clear nozzle protective tape has been removed. CAUTION: Do not attempt to remove the copper electrical strip! Look at the number on the print cartridge label and make sure it is compatible with your printer. Compatible print cartridges are listed in the Printer Reference Guide supplied with your printer. If the cartridge is compatible, reinstall it in the printer: Cartridges marked with a triangle go into the left carriage slot. Cartridges marked with a square or pentagon go into the right carriage slot. Step Two: Clean the problem cartridge contacts If the steps have not solved the problem, clean the electrical contacts on the print cartridge and in the carriage in the printer. Gather the following items to clean the cartridge and print carriage: Clean distilled water. Use bottled or filtered water if distilled water is not available. Tap-water can contain contaminants that damage the cartridge. Clean cotton swabs or any soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the cartridges (coffee filters work well) Sheets of paper or a paper towel to rest the cartridges on during cleaning Open the printer cover and wait until the print carriage stops moving. Remove the cartridge and place it on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up. NOTE: Clean the contacts quickly so that the cartridge is not outside of the printer for more than 30 minutes. If the cartridge is outside of the printer for too long, the ink can dry and clog the nozzles. Unplug the printer. Dip a swab in the clean water, and then squeeze it to remove most of the moisture. The swab should be only slightly damp. Clean the print-cartridge contacts. Do not touch the nozzles. Clean the contacts in the print carriage, inside the printer. Either let the cartridge sit for ten minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it. Reinstall the cartridge, plug the printer back in, and close the printer cover. Try to print again. If the issue still appears, proceed to the next step. Step Three: Repeat reseating and cleaning steps If the problem is not solved, repeat the reseating and cleaning procedures above. Step Four: Contact HP If the problem has not been solved by the steps above, either the printer or the problem cartridge is defective
