Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

I hate my Westinghouse Fan forced oven Model Freestyle 688. The temperature control is so unreliable. It cooks about 100 degrees above what the temperature should be. It has been like this since new. I thought I had lost my cake making touch until in desperation I bought an oven thermostatand discovered it is the fault of the oven. I certainly would never recommend any Westinghouse products. I feel so angry having wasted so much money.

I also hate my Westinghouse oven.  I will never buy that brand again!!!  I thought I'd lost my touch with baking but it seems it's the inaccurate temperature.  It also takes forever to heat up.

In the owners manual with most of the ovens it will tell you haow that you can vary the temprature of the thermastat 50 degrees up or down but not 100 you can try that and if it does not fix the issue then you will have to replace the oven sensor

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
The F-2 error code Indicates that oven is over temperature in one of the following modes within either a cooking or clean mode of operation.
· Control senses oven temperature above 650 degrees F with the door circuit in the unlock mode.
· Control senses oven temperature above 935 degrees F with the door in the locked mode.
· Stalled cooling fan or airflow problem. · Look for welded relay contacts. (Heating elements on in off mode).
· Look for open thermal switch in lock motor circuit. Switch is normally closed and will open if area overheats due to fan not operating. Look for cause - fan thermal switch not closing, fan stalled, etc.
· Look for high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit due to high contact resistance (poor terminal crimp, deformed terminals, loose connection) or intermittent solder joint on control or intermittent oven temperature sensor.
· Look for electrical noise interference in the oven temperature sensor circuit (Ham radio, cordless phone, etc.).

Steps required to replace 2200watt element for fan forced Oven Westinghouse 688 freestyle.

Symptoms= Oven light ok, thermostat light ok, oven not heating at all or to a low heat. May also have tripped the circuit breaker on the switchboard
Probably the element
Switch off power to the oven at switchboard
Open the oven door just a little and pull the door up to remove it.
Lift the panel at the oven back wall over the fan.
See the coiled element, you may already see a defect in the surface of the element.
Remove the screw at the base of the coil
With a small sharp screwdriver flip out the clip on each side of the element at the top
Feed the element out of the holes
Note that the green wire is attached to the frame of the element and the red wire to the core of the element.
The other side of the element may have two white wires
Disconnect all these wires, maybe using a pliers.
You can check this element with a simply multimeter, buy a new element and refit opposite to removal

I went out to my circuit breakers and turned the circuit off, let the oven cool, and powered it back up after about 2 hours. Fine now.
