vertical circuit is out, some component failed. turn it on and when the line comes on hit the top of the case with the flat of your hand, if the line fluctuates or goes away you have a bad solder connection on the circuit board. if it doesn't make any difference when you smack it then something has failed completely. no user repairable parts inside.
You will need the remote that comes with the TV (Sony). There is a button called "Display". Hit the "Display" switch on the remote to go through selections - until "Display Off" is display on the TV screen. Then wait about 3 seconds, and on screen display will go away.
type all of this in your address bar http://esupport.sony.com/us/perl/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=DOCS ,or copy and paste it in your address bar and when the page comes up enter all your info=model # etc. and you can get the manual for it.
There may be dry joints in the Line Stage where the Line Transformer is situated. The move may have loosened some components off the board. If not familiar with TV Electronics please refer to a repair technician. Regards and good luck, JUS004
It has a problem in the vertical sweep circuit that puts a nonlinearity
in its output and you see the glitch in the normally gradual sweep as a
line. Since a hit upside the set seems to help, you should just
resolder the whole vertical circuit area (doesn't take long) and see if
that cures it. If not, start replacing the electrolytic
capacitors in that area.
Hope Ya Fix It!
The red line on ICS is quite normal it does not mean the part has failed.
To be honest in most cases if a tv has been hit by strike it is a right off & scapped.
What I suggest is to remove the main pcb & power supply pcb if its seperate & inspect the print side of pcb for signs of arcing tracking or burnt track. Repair any damaged track by cleaning off the coating to get at clean copper then solder wire accros to bridge the damage.
Check the power supply resistors diodes transistors look carefully for any burnt components or components which are physicaly damaged.
Check the line output transistor this will be near the large transformer with a thick red ht lead going up to the crt.
Check all the components you can in the line stage look at all the ICS to ensure none of them have holes in them or have blown apart.
Hopefully you find some or one if your very lucky that is damaged replace it & try your tv.
