There are a few possible reasons for that to happen, I need more info to be able to help you.

    1. When you push the power on button what comes up first?
    2. Did you try to insert your boot disk? If so what happened?
    3. Are there any other codes or beeps that occur when you power up? Be specific! Count the beeps if there are any.
    4. Have you tried to hit F2 or F 12 right after powering on.

F2 should take you to the BIOS Screen (Caution, DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO THE BIOS) IF it does go to the BIOS, hit the Esc and quit without making changes!
F 12 should take you to a BOOT Menu, if it does try starting the computer in SAFE Mode With networking. Let me know if it does that!

If it showing this screen it is looking to boot from the network .pressing the escape key usually clears this and then it should boot from your hardrive. If it is saying insert boot disk .With it been dropped the harddrive maybe faulty now . Sometimes when a computer/laptop been dropped you can hear a clonking sound which is the harddrive trying to start up and find the boot sector. If so the chance's are the harddrive is faulty and will need replacing. As the machine is booting up press the f2 key or the f12 this should a get you into whats called the bios or the screen to show what it use's to boot from . See if a friend can get you a windows cd /usb stick which is bootable and see if the machine boots up then . But I'm thinking the harddrive is probably faulty and will need replacing. Take i to your nearest computer repair place..

I have a c655d satellite computer and it says no bootable device insert boot disk. Whats wrong with my computer

More than likely your hard drive (the device that saves all the information on the computer) is bad, or for some reason the computer isn't looking to boot from the hard drive. Remove all removable media from your computer, such as flash drives or cd's and try to boot again.
As I doubt the latter is the case, you will probably want to see if you still have an active service plan / warranty on your laptop. If you do, take it back to where you bought it or contact Toshiba for additional free support. If you do not, then you will either want to take it to your local repair store or if you have some computer knowledge you can probably attempt to run some diagnostics yourself. For example Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test is a very good hard-drive diagnostic utility.
Speaking from experience if you don't have any protection, this repair can cost upwards of $300-$400. If you can do it yourself you might be looking at the cost of the hard drive and you will likely need to order the Recovery Discs (windows installation discs) from Toshiba.

Windows 7 laptop won't boot to OS , only has a black screen with a blinking cursor

Insert your system recovery disc to repair your startup.

1. Change your Bios to boot from disc:
When your computer powers on, hit F2 (on some computers, F8 on others). Use your arrow keys and move to the right to your BOOT option. Hit the down arrow until you select your CD/DVD drive. Look at the bottom of your screen, and it should say to change the option hit F7 or F8. Use the specified keys, and move your CD/DVD drive above your hard-drive. Save your settings.

2. Boot from your disc. Insert your system recovery disc and restart your computer. Let the recovery disc load. If the option comes up to hit any button to boot from CD/DVD, then hit any button. Once it loads, it should come to a spot where it wants your language. Select your language, then select the option "Startup Repair". Click on it, and let it repair the startup. If it automatically starts correcting your startup then great! If not, then select your operating system from the list and click the Repair Startup option. Restart your computer, and hopefully it will boot from your hard-drive correctly.

Hope this works.

P.S. If it continues to boot from your recovery disc, then using the same method in step 1, go to your bios, and move your CD/DVD drive below your hard-drive.

When you restart your computer, is there an option to "change boot order", to choose the CD/DVD drive as the boot-device?
If so, insert your Microsoft Windows DVD into the drive,
and restart your computer, and select the DVD-drive as the boot device. Does it read the disk, and boot into the Windows Installer?
If so, then the hardware is OK, and you have some sort of "software" problem, rather than having a "hardware" problem.

If you restart the computer after inserting the disc 1 in the tray and the computer does not boot with the disc. then restart again and keep tapping F9 key and it will ask you to boot from cd/dvd rom so select it and press enter and it will boot with the cd. It might ask you to press any key to boot from cd. You may press any key on the keyboard at the very moment you see the message.

Windows file is corrupted and can not boot up computer

Hardrive is most likely faulty or your memory sticks are bad or not completely inserted. If you are able to turn on pc, press f2 or f8 as soon as it boots, then insert bios mode, change bootup settings for CD-ROM as first bootup device, then Hard Disc as second bootup device, then insert your windows installation disc or recovery cd, insert it, restart pc and run the disc to install windows.
