Question about Akai LCT3285TA 32 in. LCD Television
It could very likely be a bad power supply best thing to do is take the back of the tv and inspect any and all capacitors. That is a very common fault in these lcd tv's and the first place to start. If you need further assistance please let me know.

This set has a common problem w/ capacitors going bad on the power supply board. I've replaced bad caps in almost every brand for no picture or dead set. I always start by taking a look at all of the boards, after I get the back off, and take a quick look at all of the electrolytic capacitors to see if any are bulged or mushroomed on top. Any that are should be replaced.
The thing that worries me about your set is that you said it had the vertical lines which could be a bad panel(screen). If it is the panel it wouldn't be worth fixing. Normally the set will remain lit when this happens, and it will have lines that overlap parts of the picture.
If it has bad caps, a repair shop would probably charge $100 - $150 to fix it. If it needs a panel it would probably cost as much as a new set..
