SOURCE: Maxell NC-II noise reduction headphones.

Look closely at the battery icons under the batteries. The installation of the batteries in these headphones is different than most electronic devices the batteries sit side by side in the same direction both + ends are on top and both - ends are on the bottom

SOURCE: RCA headphones - nicad or alkaline batteries WHP141

BATTERY INSTALLATION AND INFORMATION
Your wireless headphone unit requires two rechargeable AAA batteries.
Rechargeable batteries are uncharged when you purchase them. Before
you can use the wireless headphones, the batteries must be charged for
16 hours. Follow these steps to install and charge the batteries.
Installing the Rechargeable Batteries
Take care to follow these steps to correctly install the batteries.
1. On the right headphone, locate the battery compartment (1).
Use the finger depression on the compartment to turn the battery
compartment cover counterclockwise to remove the cover.
2. Insert two AAA rechargeable batteries, carefully following the
markings inside to ensure the batteries are inserted properly, with
the + and - ends in the correct positions.
3. Replace the battery compartment cover.
Charging the Rechargeable Batteries
To recharge the headset unit, follow the directions below. Note: The
cradle/transmitter on the WHP141 is not a recharging cradle, although
you may place the headset in the cradle during recharging.
Follow these steps to recharge the NiMH rechargeable batteries.
1. Make sure the ON/OFF switch (2), located on the right headphone,
is in the OFF position.
2. Connect the AC/DC main power adapter to the DC IN power
supply socket (11), located on the back of the cradle/transmitter.
3. Plug the adapter into an electrical outlet.
4. Connect the charging cable (10), located on the back of the
cradle/transmitter to the recharging input (3), located on the right
headphone. The headphones can either be placed in the
cradle/transmitter or placed next to the unit. If the headphones are
connected correctly, the charging LED indicator light on the
cradle/transmitter (8) illuminate.

I am having trouble opening the battery compartment which is not located on the headphones itself. It is located in a box at the end of the cord that goes from the headphone to the jack.

They are designed to eliminate up to 95 percent of the noise that interferes with your listening experience. Comfortable design is easy to adjust and collapses to save space. Battery life is more than 50 hours on two AAA batteries (not included). Includes travel pouch and dual-prong adapter for use on airplanes.

Jvc headphones retractable cord

The JVC HA-NC250s are a new version of their previous model 100, and JVC claims that they will cancel up to 85% of ambient noise, coupled with better sound. In this case, JVC claims up to 16.5 db reduction at 150 kHz. These on-the-ear headphones are very lightweight at 5.3 ounces and are extremely comfortable. The head band has a reasonable amount of sliding expansion for bigger heads, and the oblong ear pieces themselves rotate and fold flat for storage. JVC uses memory foam on the earpieces, as well as double housing, for extra noise isolation. The earpieces have 40 mm neodymium drivers, which are the same size and type that the Creative Aurvanas offer. The JVC HA-NC250 noise canceling headphones. Note the ear-cushion instruction tab that explains how to replace the hidden battery.

The NC250s come in a semi-rigid black case with a dual airline-plug adapter, a mini-to-RCA phono plug adapter and a 4' detachable headphone cord. JVC includes one AAA battery, which should last approximately 50 hours. A simple sliding switch on the right side turns the noise reduction on along with a small red LED. Learning how to add the battery to the headphones required that I study JVC's user manual. The process involves having to remove the earpiece covering to get to the battery compartment, which isn't at all obvious.

Can bose QC3 work without noisecancelling/battery?

No, the audio input must go through the active noise-canceling circuits that drive the speakers in each earcup. The noise-canceling circuits require a charged battery to operate. Unfortunately, there is no way to bypass these circuits and drive the audio input directly to the speakers.

Just started making "clicking" sounds with a deep

Mine did this also. A regular popping on and off of the Noise Canceling feature, making it impossible to hear music/sound. If while this is happening your green battery indicator light is flashing on and off with the rhythmic popping on/off of the NC, try replacing your AAA battery with a new, fresh battery. I did, and all was well again. I had to do this twice since the first replacement battery came out of the TV clicker and were too warn to fix the problem (ran out of AAAs, it was raining, and late at night, etc...you know the Emergency battery replacement drill - run around the house shamelessly cannibalizing the kid's toys, Grandpa's insulin pump, the wife's ********...whatever you can find). Anyway, the next day I sprung for a new set of Energizers and all was well with the world again. Hope this helps.

There is constant static in the left ear when the noise cancelling is turned on. The only way to solve this is to turn the noise cancelling feature off. Is there another solution?

these things are suppost to have a little static noise when on. next time get noise reduction headphones. they are like headphone style ear protection like what construction workers use. but only more stylish and they contain speakers. and no killing batteries for good sound. they are regular headphones but with really good sound isolation
