Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

My air conditioner will not Start on it's own. Then temp controller in house makes a click sound, the furnace fan then runs like it should. But when I go outside I hear a buzz and click sound like it's trying to start but nothing happens. Just every few minutes it sounds like it's trying again. When I push the fan in any direction it starts turning and the fan then runs however it sound like the compressor is again trying to turn on with a hum sound. But no cold air inside and no warm air pushing out the ac unit. What is the problem? Capacitor or compressor? Thx mark

Bryant programmable thermostat doesnt keep the temp have to put it on fan instead of auto

My guess is that you have gas heat. If this is the case, sounds to me like your main control board or depending on age of furnace, fan controller is not working. With gas furnaces, it utilizes 2 fan speeds. High for cooling, & Low for heating. Your thermostat only controls the High speed - switches when you turn your fan on & when there is a call for cooling. The only other thing I can think of is it is possible that the Low speed windings on the blower motor are open causing it to not turn on. Most motors have 3 to 4 speeds & only 2 are used. Switch the heat motor wires in the furnace (on the control board) with one that is on a spare terminal.

It making a humming sound and the fan is going around slow the temp in home is 74 the set temp is 65 so it should not be running what could be the problem ruud upka-035jak is model

If you are running A.C.,and the T-stat is set at 65,and the room temp is 74,the A.C. will run until the temp goes down to about 65 or so.Turn T-stat to 76 and the unit should shut down. Also, check furnace filter for dirt, and check condensor unit coils and see if they are dirty. If condensor coil is dirty it cannot breathe properly. That will cause the compressor, and the blower motor to overheat.Wash cond. coil down with water hose to clean .Start at top of coil and go sideways, slowly going down.

I believe these furnaces still used a fan/limit control. The fan will not come on until the heat exchanger is hot enough. Your problem most likely lies with the burner not lighting. Make sure the fan/limit control dial has turned back all the way to the correct temp, if not, replace it. The fan/limit control is inside the aluminum cover in the middle of the burner section. Also, the gas valve may be bad. See if you have 24vac at the gas valve during a call for heat. If you do and it's not opening.......bad gas valve.

Carrier air conditioner cycles on and off

The compressor/condenser is being called all the time. The reason it goes off is because the evaporator (indoors) freezes up when the fan is told to turn off by the thermostat. This further cooling lowers the low side pressure below the low limit switch point turning off the compressor unit.
Solution: Make sure the thermostat is wired correctly. Green wire is usually the compressor wire but maybe not.

Limit Swith on Coleman Central Heating and Air

Sounds like the limit switch is not bad ...... its just doing its job. You need to determine why he furnace is overheating. Are your filters clean? Is your blower wheel clean? Is your blower motor running fast enough? It might be set on to slow of a speed. The blower motor capacitor could be bad. Are all of your air vents in the house open? Are your return air registers blocked? Is your duct work properly sized? Put a thermometer in the return air duct. Note the temp. Now stick the thermometer in the plenum. Note this temp.. Subtract the high temp from the low temp. This number should fall within the temp. rise rating found on the data plate inside the the furnace on the same sticker as th model and serial numbers. If your temp. is above the suggested temp rise. you have an air flow problem. If it is within the suggested temp rise listed then your high limit control should be replaced.
Good luck

Air conditioning unit not cooling

the problem sounds like a defective capacitor its located on the condensing unit outside, also a contactor that is used can be defective also.

Will not shut off

Sounds like a stuck relay on the unit itself. Maybe there is a short in the control wire that comes from the thermostat that activates the fan.

The thermostat probably has one hot wire at all times. The thermostat then chooses which wire to send the voltage down based on your selection. One of those wires is probably for the fan only. Make sure that it is in good condition (no bare, pinched or wires)
