go to the printer manufacturer's website and dnwnload the proper drivers from there. you will have to know if you have a 32 or 64 bit version of vista. to find out, go to "computer>system properties" and it should tell you on that screen whether you need the 32 bit or 64 bit drivers.

Vista has drivers in the OS for this printer. Just plug in the printer and connect the data cable. Windows Update will handle the rest if you use the USB cable (you may have to search for updates). For a parallel port printer connection, use the New Hardware Wizard from the Devices and Printers part of the Control Panel.

I hope this helps.

Help required installing OS (Changing OS ) myself on my HP dv9507

There are two procedures, [1]Reformat your hard disk and start a clean installation (this is the easiest thing to do, however not the most convinient) and [2] Using a genuine retail version [NOT a recovery disk] you could do some kind of downgrade [not as easy as it sounds]
I'll go back to solution number 1 (reformating the hard disk). Idearly, you'll want to back up your vista installation just in case things get messed up, then secondly you'll want to create a backup of all your files [dont worry about application data, you'll have to reinstall it all anyway]. After you're done, Insert your Windows XP disk, [it should ask you to press a key to boot from CD, if not you'll have to go into your BIOS and change the boot order], when you're into the setup, the guidelines are pretty simple, you'll have to run one of the formatting options in order to install XP [remember that formatting will erase everything from your hard disk, So I hope you did aBACK UP of all your DATA]...
As for procedure 2, Installing XP without reformating, well, let me know if you're up for the procedure and if you have an XP recovery disc

This printer does not have driver for Vista, if it is not recognised automatically it won't work on Vista.

If you have Windows XP

Un plug the printer from usb and reinstall the drivers from disk.

If you do not have disk, then download from here : Software & Driver downloads

Can't open HP Director

You say it works with XP, so I assume it doesn't work with Vista? If that's the case you can download the newest Vista drivers HERE.

Hope that helps...
