Each of the pulleys on top of the deck should have tensioners. These tensioners are usually the type which have a bolt for you to tighten while attached to the pulley. While you tighten the bolt, the pulley puts tension on the belt.

There are no bolt style tensioners on this equipment. There is a cable attached to the handle that engages the mower. The cable runs to a large spring that is attached to the belt tensioner and that is what tightens the belt. It is possible that the belt is off a drive pulley or the tensioner has frozen and will no longer engage, or the cable could be broken. Typically the belt has slipped off a drive pulley or you hit something hard with the blade

To many words I guess. But if you hit something hard with the blade like a rock or tree root the mandel housing may have broken and the pulley is no longer in the correct place.

I bought a new belt for my2005 lt 1000 42" deck

for a deck no.. Most everything on the deck is done by springs.. what i would do is look at the deck make sure nothing is rubbing the belt making it rip apart.. or make it to not engage.. i would with the engine off engage the blade and disengage the blade make sure all the brakes are pulling away from the pulleys and making sure all the arms are moving to tighten the belt.. if nothing is moving then i double check the cable or however engages the deck (all mowers are different) and if need the part. If the cable is not broken and is still on deck make sure all springs are lubed. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask

Disengaging blades when mowing completed

the cam plate that the tensioner pulley is mounted on that rotates back around to tighten the belt as the cable or rod is engaged is likely rusted and worn, there is a bushing in this pivot that can be removed and cleaned fairly easily with a abrasive wheel or pad and lubricated upon reassembly.

How to replace deck belt on lt 1000 craftsman riding mower

there are several belt guards that you will need to loosen then the belt will slip right on. having someone hold the clutch will make it easier, and the belt diagram should be on the deck. If not, these are common mowers, so a search for this or a friends/neighbors mower may hold the answer. Be sure to re tighten all guards or your belt will pop off and wear out very fast against these metal parts

Having trouble replacing a 42 craftsman riding mower belt...help Ithe old one broke off but the new one it on too tight...the replacement one is the right lenght help please

do you remember the routing of the belt? there should be a diagram on the deck somewhere - best thing to do is rout the belt while the deck is lowered, leaving the loop at the front to put around drive pully on bottom of engine. once that is all hooked up, there are deck adjusters on either side of the deck - that you can adjust to relieve some of the tension on the belt - turn the adjusters clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen - let me know if this helps or if u need more info - i have a 10 year old 42" deck tractor out in my barn and if need be, tomorrow i will walk u through - online how to adjust the deck

How do I tighten the mower belt on a lt1000?

It is kept tight by a tensioning pully. If it is loose, replace it.

LTX 1000 CRAFTSMAN /42 IN. DECK BELT LODGED ABOVE PULLEY AND STOPPED MOWER AND BROKE BELT. IS THE BELT SIZE 96 OR 97 INCH? THE BELT HAS DONE IT TWICE/STCK BETWEEN THE PULLEY AND THE THING ABOVE IT.

Without the model number, I couldn't tell you what belt goes on the ground drive. That 174883 is a 5/8 x 97" and is your deck drive belt. Your ground drive belt may just need replacing. They will wear thin and loosen up between the pulleys and cause the problems you're having. The old belt may still have the numbers on it.
