HI. This unit is equipped with a self calibration chip that initializes the program upon start up or power up. There are no manual calibration techniques needed. If you are getting lower than normal reading and you are sure that your pressure is ,indeed, in a healthy state, you may have a faulty cuff/hose connection. Make sure that you are using the cuff correctly. It must be applied to your arm in a correct way stated in the manual. If the cuff is not wrapped around your arm correctly, it will render false readings. Do not wrap the cuff around your sleeve. make sure you role up your sleeve and wrap the cuff around the bare skin. This will guarantee a proper reading. Be sure that your arm is resting in a level position and you must be sitting down, as well. Also, if the batteries are old, this will cause the unit to operate incorrectly, thus , rendering false readings as well. If you have not changed the batteries for a while, I suggest to load up a fresh pack.

If all the above actions do not produce positive results, kindly, replace the cuff/hose assembly. I would also gain access to a professional blood pressure unit to compare the readings, just to be safe. This may be a true reading, and your health may be in danger.

I'm 66 yrs of age my blood pressure is 155 over 98, is that too high?

Hellfire, yes. You need to visit a doctor and get checked out. You need medication to control it, and then you either stay on the medication or modify your lifestyle a bit, a bit of exercise, watching salt intake and coffee intake. Stress is also not good!

My blood pressure was similar to yours and I have been on meds for 20 years. I am 63 in a few weeks. One thing if you are using a blood pressure monitor, you should do three readings. The first is always high. relax, breath deeply and slowly, and take it again.

There is a chart here. Get it sorted out sooner rather than later, like Monday!

Systolic rate is higher than when I was in the Doctor's office the other day. I believe it needs to be re-calibrated. Where can I go to have it re-calibrated.

Jean, recalibration has to be done by the manufacturer of the monitor. They usually offer this at no charge, other than the shipping cost.

Hope this helps you.

First, I do not believe there is any accurate way to measure blood pressure without having a valve installed; not a practical alternative.
The standard method using an arm-cuff and stethoscope is highly dependent on the person doing the measurement. Once my hearing started to fail, I had to go to a digital meter and found after three of these which failed and comparing my current Samsung to three different methods; manual, an elaborate 'calibrated' digital on a stand and another 'calibrated' cuff-type during an examination by a professional, none of these agreed better than 10-15 mm and the worst was 25-30 mm apart.
Using the average of those 'profis,' my current wrist-type digital measures about 10 points low on both systolic and diastolic so I just ignore the absolute numbers and use it only to determine relative deviations. For that, mine is repeatable enough.
