I hve the same problem. The picture is great but there is no sound. I have only used the item a couple of times myself. Called the number on the back and it is no longer in use.

    Hi,
I see the problem could be (at least in my case) that U5 (possibly an audio amplifier IC) is burnt out. There is no evidence of other components nearby (resistors or capacitors ) that may have shorted out causing excessive current flow through this chip causing it to overheat and burn out. Now the magic question is what is the part number of this audio chip, where may I obtain a couple more, and where may I get a schematic to learn a bit more of the audio circuit?

My surround sound won't work now when I play the dvd player

Could be many things - I know, bad answer. There is no simple answer or fix.

Without more info one can only speculate.

Please determine and answer as many or all of the following so that we can help.

1) What is the make and model number of the Surround sound unit?
2) What is the make and model of the DVD player?
3) How is the DVD player connected to the Surround sound unit?
3a) Is it connected via an HDMI cable?
3b) Does the DVD player have regular stereo connections that you are using (we call these analog audio connectors)?
3c) does the DVD player have digital audio outputs that are connected to the Surround sound receiver?
4) Did the DVD player EVER make sound?
4a) if yes - what changed?
4b) if yes - does this happen with different discs?

Now some general points.
I'll assume that the other sources do work and play sound through all speakers when they are supposed to play sound through all speakers.

Then - I'll assume that without changing anything else you select the DVD player input that used to make sound but doesn't now.

Problem could be the encoding option that you have selected when you play the disc.
Many DVD's and Bluray's have audio options that you can select from the disc's main menu.
Dolby digital is the most common - also known as AC3.
Some discs have another digital audio track called DTS.

Not all surround receivers can decode all formats.

Even if your surround receiver claims to be able to decode AC3 and DTS, they will not if you don't connect the correct cable to the receiver and usually map the input to the correct digital audio connection that you are using OR if your DVD player is not capable of outputting all formats.

There are many different ways to connect the gear and many different ways one can configure correctly or not; all contributing to whether you get sound or not.

So in the above example - by selecting DTS, you do not get any sound - then try another audio track option. Basic stereo usually works (also know as PCM - which is audio like a CD).

OR maybe you never properly configured the audio properties of the DVD player.

Go into the DVD's menu or set up options and see what you find but make sure you know how the DVD is connected to your surround receiver!

As you can see - there is no simple answer without a lengthy Q and A exchange first.

I am having a problem with my DVD 218. It sounds like the audio output is blown. I need a service manual to find and repair the problem.

Hello,

First, the service manual for your Coby DVD 218 is not available. The manufacturer of the player did not produce a service/repair manual for it.

The problem might be from the audio cord of the player. Use another audio wire and observe the sound. Also, there are more that one audio out put at the back of the player, you could test other audio outputs on the player.

I just hope it is not an audio output problem as you guessed, because fixing is not as easy as you think.

Good luck.

Memorex mvd2047 dvd player - no audio when playing dvd

Regarding the problem with the sound on your DVD player, I would suggest you to make sure the audio cables (red and white) are connected properly to the TV and player.

Also, try using a different set of cables since those ones might not be working and this is why you are not getting audio. On the Memorex remote you will find a mute button, make sure it is not activated.

Have picture, no sound

I've had this trouble too. Not sure how to fix it, but I've found a work-around:

Remove DVD.
Insert Audio CD.
Wait for audio to play.
Remove audio CD.
Reinsert DVD.
Sound should work again.

If you power off the unit, you may have to try this procedure again.

No DVD sound LiteOn LH-20A1L

The audio lines from the DVD player should be hooked up to the sound card.  If the two audio wires are not connected, no audio will happen.

No sound out of surround back speakers

It sounds like you don't have your surround sound source set up properly (your DVD player is not set up for PCM sound).

the best quality audio will be to set up either digital or optical audio between the DVD and the receiver.

Once you have connected the optical or digital audio cable between the DVD and receiver, you have to go into the DVD player audio setup and change it to PCM digital audio or you will not get surround sound. DVD players are not set up by default to output surround sound.

No audio

yeah sometimes we all get fustrated with stuff like that, the trick is not to hit the thing with a hammer,,

any way ensure that yougot the cables connected propperly in the L/R audio output from the dvd player (RED AND WHITE its alo labeled) and connect it to the in in the tv..

check your player settings (audio settings and and check your tv audio settings to ensure they match) some HDTV's only use 5.1 or higher

if your dvd remote got a volume controll on it ensure the u\volume is all the way up and that it isnt muted.

try your player on a next tv to ensure its working , if it is the problem is with your settings as stated above
