Question about Sega Genesis Console

1 Answer

I recently plugged in my Sega Genesis (MK-1601) console and purchased A/V cords to hook to my tv. When I turn the power on (the red light goes on), I usually just get a flash across the screen and then a blank screen. Every now and then I will get the "licensed by Sega" sentence which traditionally precedes the Sega logo. But, after the sentence, the screen goes blank. Any way to resolve this issue? I have tried 'cleaning' both the cartridges and the Sega using compressed air.

This is pretty common. The games just need a good Q-Tip cleaning, and then the weird clean pencil-eraser rubbing.
Get out a Q-Tip, and rub it inside the game, on the copper part (The part you stick down into the system.). Keep doing this with new Q-Tips if the old ones get soiled with black stuff. After the new Q-Tip comes out white, it should work.
Sometimes, that isn't enough. Use some Windex or any other rubbing alcohol, dip it onto a Q-Tip, and rub it onto the copper part. Then, use a dry Q-Tip to dry it off, and let it sit out of it's case and out of the system for about 20 minutes so that the alcohol dries.
If that doesn't work, use a pencil with a clean pink eraser at the tip. Rub it inside the game, and use a Q-Tip to get all of the eraser shavings out. This breaks the electro-static cling/friction made when the game is being read by the system.
And if none of that works, go on Amazon or Ebay or to the store Slackers and get new video and AC wires for the Genesis. Sometimes that's all it needs!
I really hope this helps!

How do you hook a sega mk-1631 to a hd tv?

Close to the power supply input is a 9-pin round connector.
You will need a cable that connect this output to your TV.
You can find the description here:
http://www.gametrog.com/GAMETROG/SEGA_Genesis_1_2_3_Information_Specs.html

Halfway the page you will find the description of the MK-1631 with details about the cable you need.

There is a picture of the cable here:
http://www.gametrog.com/GAMETROG/How_SEGA_AV_Audio_Video_Cable_RF_Box_RCA_Composite_S-video_Component_HD_for_Genesis_CD_32x_Saturn_Dreamcast.html

You can also google for a "9-pin A/V Cable for SMS & GENESIS".

I hope this helps!

How can I hook my sega genesis console to my Direct tv box?

Don't plug your Genesis into your satellite box. Plug your Sega into the back of your TV set. Get a Sega Genesis composite video cable. Run that cable from the mini-DIN connector on the back of your Sega to the RCA (yellow, red white) connectors on the back of your TV set. If you don't have any spare RCA connectors on your TV set, try a composite video switch.

We just purchased a Sega Genesis 16 bit sysyem...Model 1601. We do not have hook-up instructions. Would you be able to help us?

Hello,
Wow, that is a pretty vintage little game system you got there, but sure I can do the best I can blindfolded.
you should have gotten a A/V cable that ether has a RED/WHITE/YELLOW or a RF Co axe end.
If you got a A/V what you do is hook that to you TV where it says input.
If you got a RF coax you would need to hook that into the round cylinder input with a hole in the middle.
If its AV the tv would need to be put on input. If its the other the tv would need to be on channel 3.
Whatever the case may be please update me if you have any other questions.
Kind regards

Need step by step directions to hook up a 16 bit Sega Genesis

There should be two plugs on the back of the sega. One for the power cord, and one for the audio/video cord. The audio/video cord is a coax cord with a little box in line. Hook your cable or antenna cable into the jack on the box and hook the end of the cable from the sega into your tv. There will be a switch on the sega or on the box somewhere that designates channel three or four, this is what channel your tv will need to be on to use the sega.

I need a power plug for genesis sega model # 1601 thank you

I believe for model 1601 it is a 9v 850ma power Adapter

search those specs online....there are many sites that carry that adapter. Just make sure you get the cord for model 1 (1601).

This website carry's it as I am sure several others do as well.

Sega genesis

don't panic
sometimes the LED goes on the Megadrive
so try to tune it in anyway. (clean a game and put it in)
also sometimes you can get a "Dry joint" at the power port at the back of the megadrive.
this is fixed by unscrewing the megadrive and a little solder on the each of the 3 joints.
