This sounds like a fuel delivery issue. The GSR has a centrifugal clutch, so the sputtering is most likely coming from the engine. There are three main factors; Air intake, Fuel ratio/mixture/delivery, and spark. Check your air/fuel mixture screws first. Then check the Spark Plug, and finally the air filter/fuel filters.
The filters can clog, and starve the engine for air or fuel, depending on the filter. Try to clean the filter, replace the plugs, and adjust the carb. One of these is the verdict, but you must determine which one. Good luck.
