Sounds like you have feed going directly from switch as soon as you turn ingition to start mode ?

check wiring back from electric clutch to main switch

possible 2 wires have been placed on main switch instead of pto switch ?

or you have a crossed circuit somewhere (that is feed from another live circuit) not directly connected and its ended up at electric clutch as soon as you liven main circuit

a wiring diagram may help

check with www.johndeere.com
or www.jdparts and enter their site load your model and type
and go to electrical system and print out a copy of wiring diagarm

you may need to supply and user name and apply for password from john deere via their site apply on line

its a good site for info and parts diagrams

cheers hope it helps

Likely a bad switch. Could be one of three switches that will kill the engine when pto is engaged. First is the reverse switch, next is the seat switch ( operator presence switch), and lastly ( and least likely) is the clutch switch.

My John Deere L130 PTO will not disengage, it starts with the blades running. Everything else is working okay. Fuse has been replaced. Could it be the switch or what?

You may have grass stuck under the pully that is supposed to glide as you engage the PTO. Now, the grass is preventing the pulley from springing back to the position so the belt does not have tension and, therefore, does not spin the blades.

On john deere la150, if i sit on seat and engage blades,,,nothing, but when i lift of seat, blades engage and motor shuts off. Replaced seat switch and did not fix problem

"On john deere la150, if i sit on seat and engage blades,,,nothing, but when i lift of seat, blades engage and motor shuts off. Replaced seat switch and did not fix problem" Okay, what I'm hearing is that "nothing" means the blades-driving PTO won't engage (declutch) when you switch on mower; but then, (say) as you start to dismount the mower (seat) the mower (drive clutch) engages even as the deadman switch (seat switch) kills the engine (and the drive/pto shaft starts to slow down. The key here seems to be that at full engine torque the clutch is unable to remain engaged but, rather, slips so that mower blade inertia (resistence) cannot be overcome...but as engine/pto rotation slows the clutch is able not to slip. First place to consider is the clutch gap which is probably to0 large (possibly from wear and tear, possibly not). So check specs and how-to from manual or factory and reset the pto drive clutch gap...not hard to do. If clutch gap is not the problem then most likely rehab or replacement of the clutch assy will be needed...is the mower has many years use sufficient to wear out the clutch. Another possiblity is an electic (wring/switching/grounding) problem involving mower and deadman switches.

Mowerdeck will not engage...

I own a similiar John Deere model (L130, 23HP with a 48" deck). I would check the electric clutch (called a PTO). To do this check the wires to this clutch and look for something disconnected. These wires (to this PTO clutch) should have twelve volts with the key on and the blades engaged.

John Deere L130 blades will not turn and the PTO will not engage.

I am having the same problem. Mine is the PTO switch wires that are breaking at the connection to the clutch just above the belt pulley that is under the engine. I have fixed mine several times, because there is so much vibration.

I have a John Deere L-130 and the electric PTO appears to be engaged even when the switch is turned off and the wiring to the PTO is disconnected. I can start the engine (with the wiring disconnected) and...

Good diagnostic work, uncleparroth! By removing power to the PTO, you've proven that the PTO clutch has stuck/frozen mechanically. If you are mechanically inclined, you can remove the PTO clutch assembly and disassemble it. You could luck out, find something as simple as a broken spring and save a lot of money. Nothing to lose but your time. On the other hand it might not be repairable and you'll have to 'spring' (sorry for the pun) for a new PTO clutch which will cost about $200. Good luck!

I have a john deere L130 riding mower...while cutting the blades just quit turning...have checked the belt and the blades will turn by hand but won't engage with the switch

There seems to be a common problem with the L130. After reviewing the posts it appears that many people are having this issue. I had the same problem, it turned out to be the wires from the PTO switch at the clutch under the engine (right above the belt pully). The wires are breaking at the connection under the engine due to the vibration.
