Question about Dyson DC21 All Floors Stowaway HEPA Bagless Canister Vacuum - Iron/Titanium/Yellow

1 Answer

I have very little suction when hose is attached (doesn't matter if any attachments are hooked up) but when I disconnect the hose, there's plenty of suction...seems as if there's a blockage in hose somewhere. How can I clean the hose w/out ripping a hole in it? Wondering if perhaps there's a small piece of wood wedged in hose somewhere that is trapping dog hair and causing lack of suction. Live in Chardon, Ohio..is there a shop that works on dysons? Thanks for any help you can offer!! jonemc@hotmail.com

Check the hoses for clogs and obstructions. It doesn't happen very often, but if you have lost suction, try pushing a broomstick gently through the hoses to dislodge any larger clumps of debris that are stuck. A hook made from bent coat hanger wire can also be used to pull out or loosen clogs.
* Be careful not to pack clogs in even more tightly.
* Handle a coat hanger wire carefully, or it could puncture the hose.

Some vacuum cleaners have a device that stops the machine if it overheats. If your vacuum cleaner cuts out, unplug it, check your manual and wait for a period of time (perhaps 20 or 30 minutes). Then, check for obstructions or other problems, and carefully turn it on again.

Plenty of suction with hose off, little suction with hose and head on. No clogs in hose or head.

if it works without the hose attached but not with it on , then there has to be a blockage keep looking for it .

My bissell does not have any suction power. It sprays the formula but will not vacuum it up.

First check the motor duct gasket. The motor duct gasket is visible once the tank is removed. It is located underneath the handle on the top of the base of the machine. It has a black rubber coating around it. If there is no suction there please let us know. If your machine does have suction at the duct, continue to check the following:

- Ensure the Ready Tools Dial is set to the appropriate setting (Floor Cleaning or Hose Attachments).
- Remove the tank from the machine and ensure the tank lid is attached properly. The front window must first hook onto the lip of the bottom of the tank and then drape over the tank. Latch the bottom tank to the top tank lid. THIS LID CANNOT BE ATTACHED PROPERLY IF THE TANK IS NOT REMOVED FROM THE MACHINE.
- Make sure the Water Tank is not full on the outside of the bladder. If it is, empty the tank.
- Ensure the hose is firmly attached to the back of the machine. If not, re-insert as necessary by twisting into place.
- The machine must be in an upright, locked position and set to the Hose Attachment setting. If the handle is slightly tilted back while using, it will create a small gap at the suction inlet (where handle meets gasket, above the Bottom Tank) which will cause little or no suction.
- Check the red Tank Lint Screen for debris. If the Lint Screen is dirty, the unit will have poor suction. Clean the Lint Screen if necessary.
- If the float flap door in the tank lid is activating prematurely when you turn the machine on, this flap door should be replaced. This tank may need to be emptied.
- Check the Tank Lid and Tank for damage.

No suction in carpet cleaning mode with Empower

Check the nozzle . Turn it over on it's belly and remove the 4 screws that hold the base plate on. Take off the plate and remove the brushroll. I bet you will see a clog in the intake. If not take it to your local vac shop and let them fix it.

Suction loss when handle is tipped back to clean carpet

can any one help,
Our Dyson Animal vacuum has plenty of suction when it is upright and the attachments are being used off the hose, but when the handle is tipped back to begin cleaning carpets the beater head is getting no suction. As the handle is being tipped back you can hear what sounds like a flapper valve in the body of the vacuum opening and then all the suction just goes away.

I have little suction when using the hose attachment

Check the hose for a blockage. If you remove the hose, if there is suction at the point where the hose hooks to the back of the vac, then the hose is clogged. If no suction there, check filters, make sure they are clean.
