Question about Jobo Giga One 40GB Portable Storage MP3 Player

Open Question

I have a Jobo Giga One 40 Gb portable disk from which I have deleted the files using Windows. Now Windows tells me I have 39GB of free space, but the display says I have only 1GB and gives me an "ERR" message. I have seen a similar problem on this site, solved by a chkdsk/f from Windows XP, but I have done that and it does not work (I haven't found the "f" part, I did it from prop/tools/check now/automatically fix file system errors). I have also tried FORMAT with NTFS, still nothing. Is there any other solution? Maybe a software to install/restore...? Thanks!

SOURCE: Jobo Giga One free space problem

Why don't you try to format your external drive. There's a variety of options where you can format it. The first one is Go to the My Computer then Right Click on the Icon of your External Drive then Select Format, it is better to select full erase of the the drive.

Is it ok to defragment my 2T goflex portable hard drive?

Yes. Defragmenting simply takes the pieces of empty space on the drive and groups them together. When you delete data from a drive or it is deleted as part of a program's function (such as deleting files only needed during installation) it leaves a blank space, but files are lined up on the drive. So if the files are like so:

2GB File ' 3 GB File ' 5.5 GB Free Space ' 1.5 GB File ' 4 GB Free Space

Then defragmenting would try to rearrange the files like so:

2 GB File ' 3 GB File ' 1.5 GB File ' 9.5 GB Free Space

So, in short, yes, it's okay to defragment your drive.

Incorrect GB space free amount and space used. Doesnt change as I delete more files.

You may have hidden files on the drive. Unhide them by hitting the Alt key and going to tools

Select Folder Options

Go to "View" and select the two indicated options below and hit OK.

This will unhide what ever files you have. If you dont find the files taking up your space, just copy what ever files you need to your hard drive temporarily or another USB drive and format the disk.

HELP.What Happened to 40 GB Space???

You may have to try to repartition the drive, you can do this while installing windows on the disk. If a partition table is corrupted it can make windows think there is more pr less space on a disk, Ive had tables corrupted so bad on dying drives they reported 999999999 gb on a 40 gb drive. you may want to look into getting a new hard drive as well if this is occurring.

Fromating Giga one

you need to go to the jobo site, find the driver/software/service link, in that you will find the giga one formatting tool, download and use that. i had the same problem when i purchased my original giga one, i used windows to format the drive - but as people find out windows is unable to format the drive correctly ie fat 32, and you then get an error message. in the formatting tool it tells you why what the different error codes are and error 1 means drive not formatted to fat 32, im not sure how old your giga one is but when i purchased mine approx 4yrs ago it never came with a proper manual and there was no support on the jobo site at the time. I think a lot of these minor problems could be avoided if it came with a manual and explained whats needed to clear the internal hard drive
