You need to log onto your router and determine teh WEP key being used. Your router manual has logon details. Also, the WEP key is sometimes on the bottom of the router.

Where is wep key location

WEP key is in your router's configuration settings.

in windows open a command prompt (search for "cmd" from the start menu)

in command prompt type "ipconfig"

Look for "default gateway" and remember the ip address listed for it

in your browser (internet explorer, firefox, chrome) type the ip address from the default gateway into the address bar. probably something like

once you access the router settings, the WEP key is under the WIRELESS section, called security.

We are trying to connect our wireless and are having problems first of all we do not know what wlan security setting to put in and then we have know idea what a wpa key is?

All the settings are in your router configuration. Whens etting up your router it will have a wireless setup section, in this section you set the security type;
WEP - (64bit or 128bit) - Wired Equivelant Privacy
WPA - (64bit or 128bit) - Wi-Fi Protected Access

WEP- 64 bit is 10 character numeric key and 128 bit is 20 digit numeric key (eg, 1234567890) WPA- 64 bit and 128bit are a passphrase comprised of anything numeric, symbols or letters (eg, 8taq*1%9)
You set your own WEP or WPA security keys and the best way to do so is to enter into your routers configuration. To do so do one of the following to find the gateway ip address;

Windows XP:
Click Start
Click Run
Type "cmd" without the qoutations and hit enter
A black screen will appear and in there type in "ipconfig" no quotations and hit enter
it will show up looking something like this:
Gateway IP........................ (Example)
Write down the Gateway Ip Address
Open a browser from a computer connected hardwire into the router and type in that ip address into the browser bar and it will take you to the router configuration page.

Windows 7:
Click start
in the search field type "command" no quotations and hit enter
A black screen will appear and in there type in "ipconfig" no quotations and hit enter
it will show up looking something like this:
Gateway IP........................ (Example)
Write down the Gateway Ip Address
Open a browser from a computer connected hardwire into the router and type in that ip address into the browser bar and it will take you to the router configuration page.Without knowing what kind of router you have though I cannot help any further as all router setup pages are different.

If you can give me more information on your router I can guide you to a page that will show you how to setup wireless on your specific router. I hope I have been helpful and feel free to comment for further information.

I cn not find my wep code

Hi bobraywhite,

Try to locate the wep code underneath the router. If you cant find it I suggest trying the following steps:

1. Use the Internet Explorer browser.

2. Type the following IP address in your address bar: , you will get a login window. Your user name can be blank and the password is admin. If you have trouble logging in use the user name: admin, and the password is: password.

3. Click on "wireless" then "wireless settings" or "wireless security." Toward the bottom of the screen look for "Security Encryption (WEP) key," if you see more than one WEP key use the first one listed.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for using FixYa

Cant find wep key

If you have a wireless computer on your network and it is operating with the WEP key, then download and install this utility.
Open the program and select "Start" it will do it's little scan and then when it finishes you should click on the Advanced Tools button. On the Advanced Tools page on the right+hand side, you will see a button that says Retrieve WPA/WEP Key, click on that.

If you do not have a wireless computer on your network, then you will have to find the WEP key in the router. On a computer that is plugged into the router by an Ethernet cable, go to Start, click on Run and in the Run window type CMD and press enter to bring up command prompt. In Vista and Windows 7, go to the Start Orb and type CMD into the Search bar, right+click on CMD in the pop up window and select Run As Administrator. Now that you're in command prompt type IPCONFIG /ALL and look for Default Gateway, that's your router's IP address, write that IP address down.
Now open up a web browser (firefox, internet explorer, Chrome, etc.) and type that IP Address into the address bar. Now your router login window will pop up, type in your login information for you router. The default login information for that router should be an empty username and
password = admin
Now that you're in your router, navigate to your Wireless>Wireless security page and right down the WEP key that is selected. That is your WEP key!

I hope this helps! If it does not, please comment back and let us know!

Your wireless network must be secured
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
Is there any computer online using the router.
check the IP address on that computer.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.
Click Here for more information about the routers and network

Don't know my WEP key

Often times the WEP key is the serial number printed on your router. If that doesn't work, log into your router through your web browser (just type the router's IP address into the browser's address bar and then enter your username and password) and under Wireless Settings or Security Settings or something similar, you should be able to find the WEP key.

Need network name and WEP key or passphrase.

the wep key is something that was created by whoever set up your router. the network information can be found several ways
first way is to click start then run on pc type cmd. in the new window type ipconfig.. the default gateway will be shown as ip address.. type that ip address in explorer. it will be something like the router will show its information on the page that opens but not the wep key. if you cant get the wep key you already have then reset your router with the button on the back of it and then follow the instruction above.. be sure to make a new wep key, do not leave you network unprotected..

Wireless network adaptor

You can get your WEP Key or WEP Encyption Key on your Wireless Router's Configuration Page.

Open your Web Browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox or Safari, type the IP Address of your Router on the Address Bar (e.g. log in to your router and check the wireless settings and look for your network key.

If you dont know the IP Address of your router, try checking it on the command prompt.

Click Start, then click on run, on the run windows type in cmd for command, a black screen will pop up, in the blinking cursor type in ipconfig for Internet Protocol Configure it will show you the IP Address of your computer and the router's IP Address which is the Default Gateway

Hope this helps

How do I get my WEP key code I have misplaced it

log into your wireless router and create a new key.

Open up your browser and type (this ip address should be the address of your router, if not use the ip address assigned). Type in the username and password to login, the default is usually 'admin'

Navigate to the wireless security settings until you find your wep keys. You can either choose one of the keys, or create a new one.
