to start with it is an LCD screen so it will not have a tube to fail
next take it to a repair shop for a quote as it could be a picture board and a simple repair
make you decision to repair or replace from the cost of the quote
That TV is a flat screen. It has no picture tube. You can Google TV replacement screens to find a vendor. Replacing the screen requires the complete disassembly of the TV, There are only a few boards inside, so the job isn't difficult if you do it yourself. Having a TV shop do it would be the most costly since you pay for the parts, shipping and labor. You can find youtube videos to show you the steps in the order they need to be in.
Sorry tv not repairable, the picture screen panel is broken or damages. The tv picture screen panel are 90% important to the tv and it is limited in production by the tv corporations,no where u can buy tv picture screen panel except the tvs corporations themselves.By replacing the tv picture panel, will cost the same as a new tv,by replacing the picture screen panel alone, because of it limited production and important to the tv itself.Sorry this not worth as a whole tv anymore, now tv only as salvages tv for it electronic boards for parts only now.

If the display isn't working and according to the conditions you described yes it is the picture tube. You could contact Samsung and get a replacement for it.
Honestly, sorry to give you the bad news and I'm one for trying to repair then throw out but, buy a new 42" flat panel it will be a lot cheaper. Mitsubishi quite making these size CRT's over 5 years ago and a replacement tube would cost more than buying a new replacement 42" TV. My thoughts is that this 5051 is over 13 years old. This model TV has a gasket on the red picture tube that faces down. The coolant leaks from between the picture tube and the lense assembly. When this happens the red tube over heats and shorts out internally and usually cracks the glass. You will probably find coolant all over the circuit board if you open the back panel of the TV.
Call a good TV Tech to repair this. It will cost over $500 if the picture tube is still available.
it will be somewhere between 200 and 300 at most places for the TUBe depending on the color you need. Or you can get them for about half that here http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
