Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

1 Answer

My Maytag Neptune FAV6800 washing machine overfills on the rinse cycle. Pulling the electric power does not stop the water flow. I have to turn off the water at the faucet feeding the hose. It seems to be either the valve or the pressure switch. The problem is intermittent.

If you pull the power to the machine and water continues to flow then the water inlet valve is stuck open. You will need to replace the water inlet valve. The Service manual will step you thru the process.

FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

The water inlet valve is p/n 25001046 Substitution: 12002242 Water valve shop around for best price.

Is this Cold water inlet valve issue? If so and you only do Cold water wash/rinse like me you could switch the fill hose connections from hot to cold to hot at the faucet. Turn the hot water faucet valve off and select Warm/Warm temp selection and you will be filling with cold water wash/rinse. Maybe that would hold you over until you replace the Water Inlet Valve assembly.

You can check out your pressure switch transitions as I had this poster do for his issue at this link http://www.fixya.com/support/t5471295-washer_fills_water_begins_agitate_but

His issue seems to be a definite stuck pressure switch not water inlet valve such as yours. Check to make sure your pressure switch is OK by watching the fill point transitions as I mention in the post.

If you machine is a series 12 or above the Low and Mid fill pressure switch transitions will toggle at the same time. Series 12 and above us a 2 level pressure switch. Series 10 and 1 use a 3 level pressure switch.

Thank you for the suggestion to switch hot and cold water hoses. That works well. We can do laundry until the new water inlet valve arrives next week.

Your guidance helped me solve the problem without calling in an expensive repair company. Thank you very much!

    John,

Good deal….. glad to help out a fellow owner. The machine is very easy to work and on once you get a little hands on experience you will be able to handle any issue with the machine and save big $$$.

I would estimate to have a repair company came out it would cost you around $125 plus the water inlet valve cost. I don’t think you could get out the door without spending $175

I go by **** but as you can see this board stars out my name so I sign off with D*ick. FIXYA quit auto parsing my name with STARS…..****

You can find me on other DIY repair forums just Google dh1200s. Shout back if there is anything else I can help you with……have a good Maytag day….:)

Sounds like a pressure switch/ chamber issue. Check the tube is clear to the drum. (Assuming front loader?)

Maytag water fill

If the only way to stop the water flow is by turning off your faucets, replace your fill valve. If you can control the flow by unplugging the unit then you have an electrical problem, causing power to get to the valve. This is highly unlikely, but possible.

Maytag Washer Problem

Have you tried starting the wash cycle at several different time settings? Especially the shortest time setting, just before the start of the first spin? If it works at another setting, it's possible the dial/switch mechanism is worn and not making contact at your usual setting. In any case, a spray of a good electrical contact cleaner spray (NOT WD40 or similar) - with the power lead UNPLUGGED - sprayed into the switch mechanism might help. You would need to remove an access panel to get at the switch mechanism.

This can be caused by water collecting in the door to tub seal. Best repair would be to replace the door seal.

Maytag Neptune Top Load Washer - Rinse Cycle won't run - Machine says nF

Sounds like the 'Wash water' is not pumping out fully,You need to drain the water by lowering the empty hose into a bowl & check the pump for a blockage ( if the pump is an 'electric one' check that it is working). TURN POWER OFF FIRST
