Whirlpool Easytronic freezer. Display u/s motor running all the time

Hi. Whirlpool Easytronic (manufacturered 1999).
Was fine until it took the RCCB out on the house consumer unit, once it was reset there is no digital display and now runs all the time and really cold.
Is it cost effective to repair ??

    No display. Freezer very cold.

  • Anonymous Aug 06, 2008

Electronics won´t stop "clicking", and it runs very cold. The freezer has been standing i the same place for 2 years and the problem suddenly appeared. Talked to a service guy and he said that the electronics and the sensor can be damaged.... No idea of the cost for repair...

This one sounds like the defrost timer is not working and you are not getting a defrost cycle every 6-8 hours (or when needed). Another issue could be that air (moisture) is getting in from a leaky door seal, etc. and causing the freeze up. If you have a sealed system problem where the cooling coils are not uniformly frosted up then the defrost thermostat will not "know" there is an ice condition and therefore not go into defrost mode (same issue if the defrost t-stat is bad). After you have ALL the ice out of the unit it would be a good idea to take the interior rear cover off so you can view the coils. Start the freezer back up and watch over the next 1/2 hour or so to see that the entire coil is frosting up uniformly. If it isn't you may have a plugged system, a leak causing low refrigerant, etc. If over time the coils look uniformly frosted up you may have a defective defrost heating element itself (no heat, no defrost sort of thing). The defrost elements can be checked with a multimeter for continuity if you know how to do that sort of thing. It's hard to know a person's ability by these forums or if they can tackle certain test procedures.

SOURCE: No digital readout

Hello derek143

You Said,
I have a Whirlpool upright freezer AFG 371/H there is a digital display and lights and buttons, on/off temp alarm etc running across the top of the freezer. None of this works but the freezer is still freezing. i have no idea what the temp is.

I think you should try unplugging it for 5 minutes and then try restarting it and see if it reset.

If the freezer was stored and not running for 7 years it may have lost coolant.  Since the compressor is running recharging the coolant may fix the problem.  Hot compressor might indicate low coolant since its motor is immersed in it.

Hi, you have a common problem with your control boards; there is a cheap fix if you can use a soldering iron or you can have your modules repaired.
Let me know

Hi there i have a vestfrost freezer it has been standing for a while ive just plugged it in and the motor is running fine but the alarm light is on can u help

The alarm light may stay on until the freezer has reached the proper temperature and cooled down.
If you just plugged it in then it will take some time for it to cool down and the alarm light to turn off.

My chest freezer (10 years old) won't freeze. Motor is running and the red indicator light remains on, but neither the amber or green lights are working.

Hi,

Let's start by diagnosing the freezer;

Fan problem is one of the most common reasons for the freezer to start failing, this is called "frost free failure." Ice can build up on the evaporator coils over time, and this ice builds up until it starts blocking the fan. The fan is responsible for circulating cold air throughout the freezer, so if it is blocked the freezer will not be able to freeze any food. You can usually check this by removing an access panel in the back of the freezer to inspect the coils. If ice is built up on the coils, a hairdryer can assist in defrosting them.

It's also possible that the fan is not running at all. If the fan is burned out or the motor isn't running, cold air can't circulate through the freezer and everything will melt. You can normally hear the fan motor switch on and off from time to time. Listen for it and if you can't hear it coming on for an extended period of time, the motor may need repair or replacement. The wires connecting to the fan may be the problem, preventing the fan from receiving electricity.

Several other problems could be keeping your freezer from freezing:

There could be leaks in one or several of the hoses in the refrigerator, which results in the cold air being lost instead of circulating properly throughout the fridge and freezer.

If you have the freezer so full that the cold air can't circulate, your food will thaw even though the freezer isn't malfunctioning. Always leave some space open in the freezer and try to not store food right up against the cooling vents.

The thermostat might have shorted out, which means the freezer can't accurately determine how cold it is. If this is the case, the refrigerator would probably not be working, either.

If your defrost drain becomes clogged, the water in the line will just refreeze over and over again, which could damage the lines as well as the fan. Always check the drain and make sure no sludge is building up in it if you have a self-defrosting refrigerator.

Always try to keep the freezer door closed for long periods of time. The more the door is opened, the more warm air is let in and cold air is released. If the door is opened frequently, the freezer could be warming faster than the fridge can cool it, which will thaw your food.

Regards.

The freezer is hot on the outside

Make sure the evaporator coils on the back or underneath near the compressor are clean. If there is a fan near the coils make sure it's running.

Since this is a new freezer it should be serviced by the people who sold it to you in order to avoid any warranty conflict. The fan blades of these units are of a slip fit onto the motor shaft. It is possible that the fan blade has come off the motor shaft.

Whirlpool Freezer

Most likely you have a defrost problem. IF, you think the timer is ok then the most likely problem is the bi-metal. That is a little part usually on the top right side of the evap coil and has two wires on it. If you can find the defrost timer and advance it slowly till the refrigerator stops running, then being in the defrost postion you can see if the heater is coming on. If so you have a bad timer. If NOT, then either the heater or the bi-metal is bad. Usually it is the bi-metal

ca. 2010 GE fridge with Samsung ice maker. I have to hold the reset on the icemaker every few days to keep making ice or it quits. What's the fix? When it works, there's a loud popping every 3 seconds for about 2 minutes, then a few minutes later ice harvests into the bin. With my hand against the outside of the fridge next to the icemaker, I can literally feel each pop. I originally thought it was the ice release heater failing that caused cubes to pop loose hard, but I couldn't find anything wrong electronically when I took things apart and examined the board and connections in the icemaker. I may have missed something mechanically that's causing some part to flex and then suddenly give against the wall inside every 3 secs as the clock cycles through the beginning of a harvest? What might that be? But after reassembly it now has the added feature of harvesting a few times and then stopping altogether. We run flat out of ice if I forget to press and hold the reset button for 10 secs. every few days. Apparently the clock is cycling incompletely or something now. Could a cog be missing/broken/out of alignment in the clockworks, such that when it gets so far along it slips, but can be reset? How about the lift arm? Could it be out of position inside such that something it's connected to isn't properly repositioning when the arm drops back down? Or could all of this be related to a faulty control board elsewhere in the fridge?
