A line error 16.This error comes up when Transmission or reception was not successful.press stop to clear message and try again.
A line error shows when machine cannot communicate correctly with other fax machine.the error is usually due to problem in phone line. The error itself displays "LINE ERROR" . Press stop to clear message. If the error does not get clear then check the following:--
1) Check the connection. The cord from TEL.Line jack To the wall jack should not be more then Six feet long.
2) make sure there are no modem device sharing the same telephone line.
3) Check with the other party to make sure their fax machine is working correctly.
4) have you telephone line checked for line noise.
5) Try connecting the machine to different telephone line and sending the same fax on which line error is showing. This will help to confirm the fault.
6) If the problem still the same then it requires service, as the problem is in the fax machine.
Its a partial error,in this type of problem the problem gets spolved for sometime then repeats again.

Hi. May i ask where did you see this error message? is it with the LCD screen on the copier or is this seen at windows as pop up error?
It is when I try to fax to that number, "line error" shows up on the screen and the printed report says "com E-16"
I see. Is there a DSL connection on that line? you need to use DSL filter if you are connecting to a phoneline with DSL connection.
no, there is no DSL connection on that line.

Hello,
what this simply means is that there has been loos of wire connection on the running of the machine .
the error code indicate there have not be a proper compatible connection, what you are to do to fix up this problem is to unscrew the machine then clean up all forms of dry around the system carefully then couple it back to is position ,with this the problem of the error code e-1 will be solve.
thank you and thanks for using fixya.
In most cases, this error is displayed when there's line problem with the receiver's machine. As per my experience, i've come across this error with sharp copiers and faxes several times, but this error code isn't clearly mentioned in any manual or hasn't been provided by Sharp. We used to fix it after replacing the machine at the other end (receiver's machine). But not so sure, sometimes it worked itself without doing anything. First of all, tell the receiver to restart his/her machine and try send a fax again. If this doesn't work, let his/her bring another machine and try again. If it works, then the problem is definitely with his machine.
Suppose if I send a fax from a hp machine to another machine which isn't working properly, i get error like line busy which is not true. But for sharp it's different and since Sharp didn't any specific cause and solution, I can help you only up to this.
I wish you good luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a copy of the manual and that specific line error message is not listed to know what the problem is. The line itself has been checked and is in working order, the machine was even tried on a different line and still had the same error message to that same #, but worked to another number.
The receiver has restarted their machine and are receiving faxes from other machines without difficulty and are able to send to my machine. Also, because they are not within the same company and are not having the problem, they are not willing to look into it as much (ie-try another machine).
I'm not sure what you are telling me to clean or how to clean... is there a specific part?
I have read the instructions in the manual and have done 1-5, now I am looking for more specific advice from someone who has fixed this problem previously (6). Please do not send a quote from the manual.
