Question about Garden

Hi John, my Troy-Bilt self propelled lawn mower has a loose V-belt that I need to replace. It didn't snap but it did slip off and I was able to get it back on the pulley. But now it's too loose. How do I get the new belt on? There doesn't seem to be and easy access to the pulley. I have an authorized Troy-Bilt repair place nearby, they charge $75 per hour. I'd rather do it myself if I can. I read online about the 2005 V-Belt recall problem & wondering if this is part of it. I do have the receipt. Thanks so much. Purchased 2008 Model 12AI869F011 Serial 1A209K30701 Lyle

I checked your links but they didn't help my particular problem. By the way, you charged me double for the fee, you charged me $12 instead of $6. Please refund $6. Thank you.

The last 'solution' was not for a push mower, but for a riding mower.

There is no easy way - put it over the smallest pulley first - then use a screwdriver to get it over the sheive of the larger pulley.
There's no belt tension adjustment on the tractor.

Thanks!!

Hello,

Make sure the key is out of the ignition and that the shift lever on the side of the mower is in the neutral position. Flip the mower over so you can access the drive belt. Lower the deck lift lever located on the right side of the mower to the bottom notch on the fender.Remove the belt guard screws using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Take off the belt keeper rod with your hands. Make a mental note of the routing of the belt. Locate the belt tensioner next to the belt, which has a square-shaped hole on it. Insert the head of the ratchet into the square hole on the tensioner. Turn the ratchet until the tensioner loosens the belt, then pull the belt off the tensioner.
Pull the belt off the remaining pulleys. Install the replacement belt in the same orientation as the original. Then turn the tensioner again until you can put the belt around the tensioner pulley. Reinstall the belt keeper rod and the belt guard.
Take care.

    Hello,

Disconnect the spark plug. The spark plug is located on the engine near the rope that you pull to start the motor. Remove the cover over the belt wheel drive. On most mowers, the front
deck cover can be detached by just snapping it off. This cover is
located on the front of the mower. You may need to unfasten screws to
take it off. Once the cover is off, you'll see the belt, which is
    located just below the motor.
Tilt the mower towards its front wheel and remove the belt from the
wheel pulley. Lift and slide it over the engine. You may need to tilt
the mower onto its back wheels to remove the other side of the belt from
    the blade pulley.
Put a new belt onto the wheel drive. Place it onto the drive the
opposite way you took the old belt off by putting one side on the blade
pulley and the other side on the wheel pulley.

Adjust the belt by moving around the drive so the it tightens on the
pulleys. Place the cover back on the mower and reconnect the spark plug.

Own a Troy Bilt self-propelled model #12A-466-M011 for a year now. It worked great when first got it. Now it will not clear the grass underneath so cuts off every 15 feet and have to manually clear grass...

I had the same problem with my Troy-Bilt self propelled lawn mower. You have to use the grass catcher if your grass is high. Also, I mowed wet grass and it made my belt slip off the pulley and created a new problem, somowing wet grass is definitely not a good idea.

The mower will not self propell. could it be that the belt is worn out? Or do I have a bigger problem? If so what should I look for? Thanks, John

Hi john, yes your belt could be cracked and not tight enough to run the drive. Also check your cable adjustment to be sure it is right.

Drive wheels dont seem to propel mower

SOME SELF PROPELLED MOWERS HAVE A SHEAR PIN IN THE DRIVE BOX THAT MAY HAVE SHEARED . IF THE MOWER GETS A LOT OF USE THIS PIN CAN SHEAR. ALSO SOME HAVE A FRICTION DISC, LIKE A CLUTCH THAT MAY BE SLIPPING. CHECK THESE TWO THINGS CAN'T TELL MUCH MORE WITHOUT A MAKE AND MODEL

How do i replace a drive belt on a troy bilt self propelled lawn

You turn the mower over, remove the blade with a 9/16 or 5/8 socket. There is a bolt holding shroud on, 3/8 or 7/16, there are two screws by the rear wheels, 7/16 that need to be removed. Once the shroud is removed, belt can be removed and new one put on.

Hello:

Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine and the Mower Model Numbers, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Engine Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. The Mower Model Numbers are Usually Located Under the Seat on a Sticker on the Body of the Mower.
