Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

Computer freeze along with network disconnection

Thanks for your help with my router problems. I see now that the times the network stopped responding, there was a high volume of traffic (xbox live game session, bittorrent running on my computer).

However, when these network connection occur, my computer begins to run so slow that I have to turn the power off and on to restart the machine. Do you have any clue as to why this happens? I thought it may have been a software or hardware incompatibility, so I reformatted and reinstalled all of my devices. All of this to no avail; any thoughts?

Thanks again for your help with my previous problem.

If you truly have a router, and are not sharing your internet connection through your PC, then this problem can be with the router itself. It can very well be that the router cannot handle that kind of load. Unfortunately, reformatting your PC was an unnecessary step. At this point in time, I would suggest investing in a higher-end router, perhaps one that is rated with MIMO (multiple-in, multiple-out) technology. This will be beneficial to you when using xbox live and your PC at the same time. Also, I would suggest not running bittorrent while on xbox live, this requires a lot of network traffic, and not having a fast enough internet connection or good enough router, can cause issues. Another option, is to reconfigure your bittorrent client not to use so much of your bandwith, run a google search on bittorrent setup guides (or optimization guides).

Hopefully, all this info helps.

My x box 360 keeps freezing ans saying you are disconnected from xbox live, what do i do ?

If your screen freezes when playing on Xbox LIVE, the problem may be related to your Internet connection. A weak wireless signal can cause poor Xbox LIVE performance. If you are using wireless connection:
1. Go to My Xbox and select System Setttings. 2. Select Network Settings. 3. Select Wired Connection or the name of your wireless network. 4. Select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
If your wireless signal is only one or two bars, try improving your signal strength by following the suggestions below.
  • Move your router or gateway off the floor and away from walls and metal objects such as metal file cabinets).
  • Minimize obstructions along a straight-line path between your Xbox and your wireless router or gateway.
  • Shorten the distance between your console and your wireless router or gateway. Ideally, your network hardware should be near the center of your home.
  • Change the position of the antenna on your Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter (external adapter only).
  • Turn off wireless devices. If your router uses the 2.4 GHz band, try turning off wireless devices, such as 2.4 GHz cordless telephones and Bluetooth devices.
  • Try changing your wireless channel. Wireless routers and gateways can broadcast on different channels and one channel might be clearer than another. See your hardware documentation for help changing wireless channels.
  • Add a wireless repeater to extend your wireless network range. You can boost your signal strength by placing a wireless repeater halfway between your router or gateway and your console.
  • Add an Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter.
  • Switch wireless signal bands. If you have a dual-band router and an external wireless adapter, try switching the router to a wireless protocol that transmits on the 5 GHz band (wireless protocol A or N). Please see your hardware documentation for help with changing the wireless protocol.
  • Switch to a cable.

I have wildblue and my connection will not consistently connect . It freezes up the computer running xp wireless router is WNR854T

With wireless connections, there are at times brief disconnects. If you set your computer's ip address to a fixed value, this may help the problem. With a DHCP connection (not fixed) you could be getting a different address after one of the temporary disconnects causing the hang. Go to control panel, network connections, properties, then scroll down the window to the tcp/ip line , highlight it, then click the properties button. In the properties, click the use ip address button, enter a fixed ip address. If you are using a standard home address system, use 192.168.1.10 (if you have more than one computer, make sure each address is unique). subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, gateway is your router ip address, typically 192.168.1.1. Check your router information to be sure. You can use your router ip for the DNS server ip. If that does not work, check the DNS address provided in your router settings. Save all the settings.

See how that works, if it works, please leave feedback.

Good Luck

How to fix intermittent wireless signal with Dell Inspiron 1501

It's the Wireless Zero Configuration service that's doing it. Every 10 minutes or so, the WZC service goes out and tries to look for wireless networks. During this time, it can sometimes disconnect from your wireless network. Usually its brief, merely a few seconds, but long enough to kick you out of games, messaging clients, etc.

There is no easy way to resolve this other than stopping the WZC service after startup and successful connection to your wireless. Unfortunately, if you disable this service altogether, your computer will never connect to any wireless and when looking at the Wireless networks list, it'll mention the WZC service is disabled.

You will also need to re-enable this service everytime you take your PC to places where you'll be connecting to other wireless networks. To stop this service, follow these steps:
  1. Go to Start -> Run -> and type "services.msc" (without quotes)
  2. Scroll to the very bottom of the list
  3. Right click on the Wireless Zero Configuration and choose stop
Once it stops, continue working with your wireless network. If you no longer have disconnection problems every 10 minutes roughly, you've solved your problem. Repeat the above steps after every reboot as the service will be re-enabled after the computer restarts.

I have a netgear router and have a laptop hooked up to it and working but I when I have my desktop hooked up to it, the computer won't let me go online. I have an HP Compaq Presario and I also noticed that...

The most likely culprit is the cable you are using to connect the desktop to the router.

The networking icon with the red X is your computer telling you the network card is not physically connected to a functioning port. Either the cable is bad or one of the ports (your computer's or the router's) has a physical or electrical problem. Try using the laptop cable and/or connecting to the port the laptop is connected to.

If the problem is something else, it is likely more information will be needed to diagnose and fix it (router model, OS version, whether a DHCP server is running, the network address of the router, the exact type and text of the icon that's telling you the network is disconnected).

My wired pc keeps discconecting from internet

Check for wire loose connection and then any time setting for your dhcp connection. If they are ok check your network connectivity do as follows.

Startup
run
type cmd
at the prompt type ping <your router ip address> -t
kepp watching the reply

use your computer as normally and check when it gets disconnect by watching above

may be some corrupted program send packets in an un usual rate (it can be virus/trojan) so the router blocks those port and your computer disconnect from the network.

Rather from all the above change the PCI Network adapter replace with a new network card.

Wired network connection problem

Thank you for the clarification. I believe that 50 feet long is prone to interference that is why your computer freezes. You can try using a shorter cable to and check if the same problem occurs. This could be a problem with interference or a problem with the second computer. By trying a shorter cable, you would be able to define which is the problem.

What wireless adapter is installed on the vista computer and how far is the wireless computer from the router? On your vista computer you may change the order of your wireless network and make sure the Wireless Network Name of your Belkin router is on its top. You may also try changing the channel on the router and its security settings from WPA to WEP if it may help in the synchronization process.
