Question about Hayward SAND FILTER, PRO SERIES

1 Answer

The handle on the multi-port valve S244T filter is loose (it offers no resistance to being moved up & down). However changing port is exteremely difficult and requires two hands. What is causing this?

Up and down is the locking mechanism. You should only move the handle in a clock-wise direction.

I think you should take the valve apart ... clean thoroughly ... replace the gasket and lubricate with what ever your Pool Supply place recommends.

I hope this helps you ...

This is the 2nd summer we have used our Hayward pump all of a sudden it pushes water into the pool for filter but when set to backwash or waste it hums for a minute then throws the breaker

Need more info, model and over all condition. I would check the capacitor on the motor first and then the multi-port valve. Make sure you are shutting the pump off when moving the handle on the multi-port .

Variflo valve SP 714T..I changed the diffuser with seal attached..filter when it is in the filter position, pumps water out of the back wash port. Tried rotating handle and bumping it down..sprays water...

You just installed the handle backwards when you put it on....backwash & filter are 180 degrees opposed.
Take it apart, push the pin through and rotate handle 180 degrees before you reinstall worries.

How do you replace the handle on the control valve pro series sa

Is this a push pull valve or a multi-port?

Push Pull --- there is a screw in the edge to remove that will allow you to pull the assembly from the housing.

Multi-port --- 6 screws around the ring to remove.

of course --- turn the pump off before you do anything!

I hope I have answered your question.

Need to know how to backwash the pool filter

Depends ...

There are two primary valve styles ... a "multi-port" and "push-pull". Never change a valve setting with the pump running.

Multiport has a handle that goes around in a circle (only move it clock-wise). You should go to your pool place to identify this kind of valve and get new lables. Push-pull goes up and down. Up is filter - Down is back wash.

If you will study your system, some things will become evident to you .

Your pump pulls water from the pool through the pump ... out of the pump into the filter. Through the filter, back to the pool. You might be heating the water (would be after the filter) and you may be adding sanitiser (after the heater). One suction - two discharges (oh, the other discharge is to waste.).

Recap ... water out of the pool into the pump - out of the pump throuth the control valve to the filter - out of the filter to the heater then to the sanitiser then back to the pool.

Any help?
