50:1 is the correct fuel to oil ratio. Be sure to use a modern synthetic oil made for chain saws, and premix the fuel and oil in it's own can-- shake the can thoroughly just before filling the saw each time. With the very lean fuel to oil ratios used today, it is important to keep the oil in suspension to prevent engine damage. Hope this helps!

Need gas and oil mixture ratio

The gas oil ratio on all Poulan models is 40:1.
First, I recommend a synthetic oil mix if you can find it and also recommend running a 93 octane gasoline.
Second, I would mix no more than 1 gallon at a time, unless you are doing a lot of cutting.
Gas/Oil mixtures do not last that long. I don't give them more than a month, and generally try to run any mixture within 2 weeks.
Think about it, gas cam gum up on it's own when let sitting for too long. Imagine what it can do with oil mixed in it.
Good luck with your saw, and be careful when cutting.

I have a Craftsman 2-cycle blower/vac and its only 3 years old and have changed out the spark plug and fresh mixed gas and still won't start. I need some help anyone know?

Check age of gas. Cannot be more than 30 days old. Make sure to use fresh gas w/synthetic 2-cycle oil @ 40:1 ratio (1 gal.) Gas to 3.2 oz. Oil). Do not use old or stale oil/gas mixture. Always use the proper oil/gas mix. If you do not, your engine will suffer rapid, permanent damage. May need to clean or replace carburetor.

The chain saw is brand new. It starts OK but after I make one cut it stalls (Every time).

Do you have the proper gas-oil mix? It should be 40:1, which is 3.2 oz of oil/synthetic oil to 1 gallon of fresh gasoline. Make sure you push in the choke after starting it. Also make sure the chain brake is off (chain should move freely by hand when the saw is TURNED OFF.) If gas mix is right, choke is turned off after starting and brake is off, take it back to the dealer/store.

New 18" Poulan Pro 42 cc saw, mixed up new gas

Don't use stabil. Use a modern synthetic saw oil (50:1 fuel to oil ratio) available at home centers, hardware stores, and saw dealers. Mix the oil and fuel in it's own container and be sure to shake the container thoroughly just before filling the tank each time to prevent oil starvation. If it becomes apparent that the carburetor adjustments are wrong, you will need to see your dealer for adjustment. Good luck!

What is proper gas mixture?

fuel mix ratio is 50:1 using good quality 2 stroke oil

ie if you mix 20 mils of oil for every 1 litre of petrol that you mix
that is 50:1

or if you want a 5 litre mix put in 100 mils of oil into a clean petrol container 1st then put in 5 litres of fuel only and give good shake

cheers paul

I guess he needs to know what kind of oil he needs also

you shouldn't need to mix oil with gas on a four cycle engine. this is for two strokes.
