Is there any maintenance that can be undertaken ourselves before we call in an engineer. The pilot light remains on if we hold down the dial but as soon as we take it off it goes out. Frymaster Dean SR142GN

The pilot serves two purposes: lighting the burner and heating the thermopile. In operation, the thermopile is in contact with the pilot flame and generates millivolts. The millivolt output passes through a normally closed high-limit switch and energizes the gas valve pilot coil, which in turn opens the pilot valve. The pilot light on my Frymaster Dean SR142GN does - f078045.gifIf the pilot flame is extinguished, voltage is lost to the gas valve pilot coil and the pilot valve closes.

Thermophile not only acts as a safety, it also puts out enough voltage to operate the valve. Therefore they cost a lot more than a standard thermocouple. Here is your manual coutesy of Partstown a leading supplier of rest parts. I highly recommend them.

If that is the case then the dial needs to be checked, its getting internally short and causing the pilot light too go off.Actually the internal dial is turning it off. remove the dial and check.the units panel needs to be disassembled to remove the dial.
As if the engineer comes ,he will check the dial and replace its internal connections that is causing the pilot to goo off as you release it.
Thanks for keeping updated with your query.

Frymaster Dean Deep Fryers pilots light automatically go off

Will this heat up at all. Is it the same Model # as the one you .have some changes from the one you have for 2 years ago might have been made. check model # and make sure it is the same The light that go's out might be when the unit come up to the setting you put you Thermostat on meaning it heated up and will come back on when the temp drops and it starts to heat back up. it's that simple. if you just got this unit it should work if you turn the heating setting up . Let me know if the unit heats that is the starting point.

Deep fryer pilot light switches off automatically

First make sure that the thermocouple tube is directly in the pilot light flame. If it is, then the thermocouple is defective.

Defective thermocouple. It is the metal tube that is in the flame of the pilot light.

check if the thermopile receives enough heat from pilot flame, if it does, replace the thermopile.

My pilot light will not stay lit. I have replaced the thermocouple and still will not stay lit. Can the valve be bad?

Make sure the thermocouple is deeper into the flame of the pilot light. It needs to reach a high enough temperature to produce a high enough voltage to keep the pilot light lit all the time. I do not think that the main gas valve is bad at all.
