My LCD screen is still working, but not properly on my SONY DCR-SR42. Sometimes it works fine, but most of the time it shows a white screen or the picture is moving from the top to the bottom across the screen. I think this i due to a bad wire connection between the camera and the LCD screen.
Fp-610 or 1-871-457-21 or old part number 1-871-457-11 is a flexible connector, runs for about $40 with shipping on ebay or web
This was very helpful and solved the problem. The cable must be folded over 3 twice to fit. I got mine fromhttp://firstchoicestuff.hostedbyamazon.c... for around $16.00 It came from Hong Kong.

Dcr-sr42 camcorder screen rolling down
The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.
My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

I have something similar. Frequently, when you turn the camera on, the video display will not render. You get a bunch of rapidly scrolling horizontal stripes. Moving the fold-out screen slightly often seems to fix the problem, which also leads me to believe that there is a wiring or connection flaw between the fold-out LCD panel and the camera. We've had the camera just over a year.
I have the same problem DCR SR62. Sony wants 129 labor to repair. That stinks! a 1 year camera!
I have a sony SR82 and I am havin problems with the screen as well the screen changes hue and will not respond to the touch controlls. I am worried that it will go dead on me...There is no viewfinder so without this screen the camera is useless...
I am having the same problem and thinks it has to do with a loose wire as well. It works fine when watching the video footage on tv or the computer.
Same problem... I think Sony should step in and repair an obvious design flaw in their product!!!
My screen rolls and I can not get it to stop. I'm not sure what to do. I'm a little afraid to take it to a local camera shop but also don't want to mail it to Sony. I have enjoyed the DCR-SR42 and have had it for a little over a year but now with the screen rolling I can not use it.

I have the exact same problem with my DCR-SR42. Now it roles
most of the time and if I get lucky it stabilizes when moving the LCD. I even
took the camera apart and looked at the wire, but can’t see any damage to it
although I am thinking it is damaged. If I can only get the new wire from somewhere
to try…
LCD screen shows "out-of-sync" lines (like on old TVs), but can clear up if LCD flap is moved/jiggled. Annoying!
DCR-SR290
I have the same Problem.
I had my DCR-SR42 for a little under a year and my screen suddenly started rolling as described. At first, it would resolve itself if I moved the LCD around for a bit, but it kept taking longer and longer for this to work and it now will not stop. I can't see anything, record, or navigate menus whatsoever. I really want some help so I can get this fixed. Apparently this is a common problem with this model, so Sony really should help us out.
My DCR-SR42 display has synchronization issues. At first upon power up it lacked synch but would resolve itself but then it kept taking longer and long and now it starts in the center of the screen and then it fill the entire LCD screen but completely out of synch rendering the camera totally inoperable.
