Question about Panasonic Televison & Video

1 Answer

I've got 2 Panasonic DMR-EX79 DVD Recorders, one is faulty (stuck in self check did not complete loop) my question is, is it possible to put the hdd from the faulty machine into the healthy machine to retrieve the contents of the hdd? Would there be any problem then putting the original hdd back into it's original healthy machine. Any help or advice is much appreciated, thanks.

Assuming the hard drive is not faulty I do not see why not provided that the configuration in machine 2 is identical to machine 1. Hopefully the electronics of machine 1 did not enter some sort of identifier in the hard drive that would render it useless in another machine. (Ex: Win 10 does this but Win 7 does not!). Good luck!

SOURCE: Stuck in self check mode

Manually pull down the front shield, then somewhat forcefully pull down the inner shield and maybe two little white pins so the tray is exposed with nothing blocking it. Have someone plug the machine in while you are holding everything out of the way and the tray should start to open. Pull your fingers out quickly so you don't block the tray from sliding out.

SOURCE: Self check for over an hour

While the unit is switched off, Jim, press and hold the STOP and Channel Up buttons (BLACK SQUARE and CH/\) on the unit (NOT the remote) for 5-10 seconds and your disk should eject.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Switched on my panasonic DMR EX79 HDD/DVD recorder

Check that C1801 is not leaky. If so, check if IC1801 has blown. If it has blown, it will also need to be replaced.

Usually it's only C1801 leaky, replace it and thats it.

You can find the capacitor on the main board, under the digital board that has ribbon cables going to the dvd drive.

Hope this helps.

Some new dvds record right through, others from the packet come to 'NO RECORDING POSSIBLE' at some stage - is this to be expected?

I've occasionally found that some brand new DVD-Rs are rejected by Pana recorders, and have put this down to manufacturing faults on the discs. It's usually not worth taking them back when one disc of a pack of 100 is faulty.

All I can recommend is that you use a renowned brand, such as TDK, Maxell, etc to reduce fail rates.

L.S. How to reset Panasonic DMR-EH55 DVD Recorder / HDD Recorder to factory settings?

You can either go into menu (pressing 'FUNCTIONS' button on remote) and look for 'RESTORE DEFAULT SETTINGS' or similar heading, or you can (while unit is on) on the front of the unit (not the remote) press CH UP and CH DOWN buttons together for 5 seconds - the unit will switch to standby. Give either one a try. (refer to page 60 onwards in your user manual - these pages detail 'settings').

If you cannot find your manual, it is available for download (free) - http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Video/DVD-Recorders-Players/DVD-Recorders/Operating-Instructions/model.DMR-EH55S.O#ts

I hope this helps in some small way. Thanks for asking FixYa!

Recorder keeps 'self checking' then taking dvd back to begining, although only on recordable dvd's, not rented. Are recorders worth repairing or are you better just buying another?

I have had a Panasonic DMR-E85 with this exact same problem you are describing. As I bought a Freeview Dual-tuner PVR I just bought a second-hand DMR-E55 as I liked the Panasonic interface. Two months down the line it is now exhibiting the exact same problems, except now as well as the continual self-check rebooting, it's also refusing to eject the disk. Booo. Time for me to buy a new DVD recorder again, and this time certainly not Panasonic... :(

What a story ! Clean your laser eye with Rubbing Alcohol and a Q-Tip. Down updates to your Recorder from Panasonics Website., and install in your Recorder. Order your replacement parts from Panasonic but I do doubt you will need them.

AELFCHECK Problem with Panasonic DVD Recorder

Hi

This problem is associated with a regulator on the power board. It's an easy fix if you can use a soldering iron.

If not you may be able to get someone to repair it for you. I have posted instructions on how to replace the defective component.

Please note the instructions I have given refer to the DMR E55 but the E95H is much the same.
