Question about Sony Cybershot DSCW370 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I accidentally dropped the camera from my hands (im a about 4'10"), and now when i turn it on it makes weird noises. Also, theres an alert that says "turn the power off and on again" on the camera screen, and even after turning it off and on again, it doesnt work and the alert wont go away. But, i can still look at old pictures, just not take them. help! :(

Hello,

If the camera has been dropped and badly damaged - physically, best to do is to send it to the nearest Authorized Dealer for proper check-up or repair. As, we cannot determine the physical deffect inside the camera creating an unwanted noise and cannot perform well. Above link is the Sony Cybershot help desk. They might help you with this.

Please also check if this is still part of the warranty. This may also help you with the billing and other concerns.

God Bless

Hello,

Bummer huh? I dropped mine a while back and damaged my battery cover!

I would try...taking out the batteries and reinstalling them! This may reset your camera?

Otherwise, I would do a web search and type in:

Hope this helps you get your camera working again!

Kind Regards!

Why does my camera turn on, make a weird noise and

hi. you have problem in lens unit and the weird noise come from to focus gear.maybe you go to the beach or dusty place thats why the said dust or sand goes into lens gear. If you can open and try to clean its better but if not bring to service center and request for cleaning and adjustment.

My camera lens won't go back in and is making weird noises.

Since you said it makes noise when you turn it on, the gear system controlling the lens might be faulty. have it checked.

Sand in my camera

Sand, water, salt water, dirt and dust can damage the lens to the point of no return, so to speak.
It may not have been dropped if you had used the wrist strap, how ever it is now in damaged condition.
The lens needs to be taken apart to completely clean out the sand. This is a very tedious and is a job for a professional with experience.
The parts are extremely small and have close tolerances, thus any dirt or sand can cause grinding or damage to the internal parts of the lens mechanism.
If you ever get a chance to see the gears and the gear teeth, you would understand why just a few grains of sand can jam these small parts. One grain of sand can stop a lens gear from working and possibly cause a broken gear. The parts are so small that in order to see the grains of sand which cause the problem, it may be necessary to use a magnifier lens.

To even make things worse, there is grease usually on the gears. The grease will hold any sand and cause it to stick in place. Cleaning these gears is not very easy.
I have done it, and returned the camera to working condition, but not an easy job.

Camera will not turn on

This happened to me and I took it into a dealer and he simply taped the battery door closed very firmly so that the batteries made contact. They are not making contact now. I thought it was sort of weird, but he said a new battery door would cost as much as a new camera!

My optio was dropped with the lens going down first. now my camera makes noises & the screen is black. how do i go about fixing it?

looks like the gears or retracting mechanics are damaged.

its problably not worth to take it in, to get it fixed (depends on the camera). but most likely sound like the gears are busted.

you be paying for repairs that costing waaay more than the camera.
