Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

The evaporator fan motor on the freezer section was not running. supposedly a prior technician had replaced the circuit board. I replaced the evaporator motor which is not running. the owners stated it is not cooling and the lights are blinking. Please advise to the next step...unsure what to look for at this point.

Is the compressor working to cool down the coils for the evaporator?
Is the evaporator ventilation motor running at this point in time?
What brand and model is this refrigerator for more specific technical information?

samsung side by side, model: RS2545SHXAA

    yes, the compressor is working.

no, the motor is not, it is new.

The closest model number I could find was RS2545SH, which is a variation of the one you gave me, but contains a subset of the numbers and letters you gave me.

Is the unit in 'demo' mode? The first FAQ asks this because sometimes a refrigerator will be in a warm mode for display purposes:

If the above mode is not causing the problem, then you may have to enter a service request for have someone come out to take a look at it, including the board that was supposed to have been replaced earlier:

  • cooperenterp Aug 06, 2010

It is not in demo mode, the compressor IS running, as stated. I AM the person to go out and look at it, but have never run across this in 35 years. Any other suggestions? I do question the honesty of the person who "allegedly replaced the circuit board".

Do you think that they didn't change the circuit board?

  • cooperenterp Aug 08, 2010

Can't really say....I don't know....I am thinking that this is the only thing that could explain what is happening.... was looking for other options or suggestions....

What causes the coils behind the panel in the freezer to freeze up and stop the freezer fan? top half of freezer defrosts, lower half stays cold.Fridge is side by side and freezer fan keeps turning of

When the evaporator fan motor stops running the top half of the back wall of the freezer will frost over and the the only reason the lower portion stays cool is because cold air falls. More than likely you have a a dc motor fan and its bad, but be wary with ge, the main control board could also go bad causing the fan not to run.

The E/F error code is indicating a problem with the evaporator fan motor inside the freezer. It could be caused by a failed fan motor, control board or a loose wiring connection between the two components. The control board monitors the evaporator fan motor operation and speed. If the control board does not receive information from the fan motor or receives incorrect information because the fan motor has stalled out or is not running correctly "E/F" will display. This type of error code will require a service technician in order to diagnose the failure. I recommend calling a service technician to repair your refrigerator.

Freezer flashing E Refrigerator flashing F what does this mean????

The code "E - F" is related to evaporator fan motor. You have a bad evap fan. This is the fan that is behind the back panel INSIDE the freezer.

This code is for the evaporator fan motor but it could also be due to a defective main board. If the fan motor in the freezer is still running, disconnect power to the refrigerator for 30 seconds and then reconnect it. This resets the board. If the code disappears and the motor is still running, it may be ok now but if the code reappears, the board will need to be replaced. If the motor is not running, some voltage checks will need to be made at the motor and at the board.------------The EF error code indicates a problem has been detected with the freezer fan motor (evaporator fan). This type of symptom could be caused by the fan motor stalled out on some type of obstruction, defective fan motor, faulty wiring or the main control board.

Fridge at the top is not working, freeer at the bottom is working perfectly. Our fridge has stopped working, all lights are on inside. We have turned the power off and then back on again. It is only 4...

All cooling takes place in the freezer (bottom, in your case). Freezer air must be circulated into the fresh food compartment to cool it. There is a fan in the freezer called the evaporator fan, which is supposed to do this job.
1. You have a blockage in the return vent to the freezer. Remove item that is on the floor of the fresh food section and find this return vent (hole or passageway) and prove to yourself that it is clear.
2. Freezer fan is not working. You should hear it when opening the freezer door. Some units shut opff when the door is open, so see if pushing the button that turns off the freezer light does that too. If not working find out why. Fan blade stuck on something? Motor seized? Replace failed motor.
3. Defrost system has failed, allowing ice build-up on the evaporator (behind freezer back wall). Test heater, defrost limiting thermostat, and defrost timer circuit. If a circuit board determines defrost cycle timing, replace it if the def. thermostat and heater are good.

My refrigerator is not working, but my freezer is

Usually there is a air flow problem from it not defrosting(all the evaporator coils are frosted up with moisture preventing air flow-defrost problem ) or the fan motor is not turning in the back of the freezer section above the evaporator....
All of the cooling in the top or refrigerator section is done by air flow circulating across the coils in the freezer to get temps down to 38 degrees or so. You have to listen for the fan running in the freezer section, feel for air at the top back of the refrigerator(the damper control) Sometimes a bi-metal thermostat in the defrost circuit is also used in series with the evaporator fan motor, if it is open the fan will not run........(this I have seen) Also check the vents for the return air to the freezer(behind the crispers are not covered accidentally) Hope this helps........

My kenmore model number 795.775436000 displays an error code er ff. I checked the evaporator fan and it is good. I replaced the control board and still no luck. Any thoughts?

This is an error code that pertains to the evaporator motor but could also be the main board.
If the evaporator motor is running, the main board will probably need to be replaced.
It could be a wiring problem but it's not very likely.

If the motor is not running, some voltage checks will need to be made, at the motor and board, to determine which component has failed.
These checks require a meter and can be difficult to make, even for a technician.

Fresh food section warm, freezer is cold

If you check both of the fan motor wires with a meter at the same time , and you get 120 volts , then the fan motor is bad . Do not check to ground , but both wires at the same time . To check the defrost , you will have to turn the timer into defrost , and see if the heater comes on . With no model number , can't give you anymore info . But yes , as simple as replacing the motor .

Fan in the freezer stop working ater a while

You may have a serious issue with the wiring harness inside the refrigerator.  You will need to have the technician come back out and check the continuity of the wires leading from the control board to the fan checked out.  If there is no continuity, it is not repairable.
